Apr, 2002 : USi partners with SunGard for Disaster Recovery

📅 April 30, 2002 - Enterprise Application Service Provider USi Inc. (usi.net) said yesterday it would extend its disaster recovery offerings in direct response to increased inquiries among large enterprises following the events of September 11.

USi will partner with SunGard Recovery, which specializes in providing availability services, to expand its service roster. USi will use SunGard to provide its customers with a fuller range of information availability services to co-location and electronic vaulting services.
"This partnership with SunGard provides our enterprise customers with additional DR options as a complement to their core ASP service," said Andrew Stern, CEO of USi. "As the ASP that enterprises trust to maintain the functionality of their mission-critical applications, USi is thrilled to be able to offer our customers SunGard disaster recovery services."

📅 May 1, 2002 - Inflow to Cut Staff, Data Centers - Denver-based Web hosting firm Inflow (inflow.com) said today it would reduce its workforce and either close or sell a number of its data centers in order to become EBITDA (Earnings Before Interest and Taxes Depreciation Adjusted) positive by the second quarter of 2002. Inflow said it plans to "phase out" its operations in Irvine and Sacramento, California, and said it would reduce its corporate and non-essential field support staff. 📅 May 1, 2002 - KPNQwest Big Factor in Qwest's $698 Million Loss - Telecommunication carrier Qwest (Qwest.com -> lumen.com) posted a wider that expected loss for this first-quarter of 2002 yesterday, with revenues dropping 13.5 per cent to $4.37 billion. The company lost 42 cents per share, or $698 million, for the three months ended March 31, compared with a net loss of $46 million, or 3 cents per share, in the first quarter of 2001. Thomson Financial/First Call's analyst estimate called for a loss of 4 cents a share. Qwest attributed the lost to its investment in KPNQwest, a European data/telecommunication subsidiary, which included both a write down of the company's equity investment of $462 million and the company's share of restructuring
