May, 2002 : TELUS Wins $110 Million in Data and IP Contracts
📅 - Major Canadian Telecommunications Company TELUS Corporation (telus.com) said on Wednesday that it is continuing its advance on the Central Canadian and national data and Internet market over the last several months with the signing of eight contracts.
The contracts, says TELUS, are worth a total of more than $110 million and have an average length of more than four years.
"These contracts reflect progress in our focused strategy of growing our data and Internet Protocol services in Central Canada," says Darren Entwistle, TELUS president and CEO. "The fact the contracts are with such large and recognizable customers and for long terms also reflects well on TELUS as a strong and trusted service provider."
Among the contracts signed are deals with several large organizations and service providers, including BTI Canada, Alcatel, Inter.net, EDS Canada and the Government of Ontario, the city of Montreal, RBC Financial Group, the University of Windsor and York University.
TELUS says the largest of the contracts, with leading Canadian travel management company BTI Canada, is a seven-year, $42 million agreement to provide national data, IT and voice services, with an option to extend the deal by two years.
The company's agreement with network building company Alcatel is a six-year, $32 million contract for computer and technology rollover. TELUS will install PCs and printers at Alcatel locations across Canada.
TELUS's deal with Internet service provider Inter.net Canada is worth $13 million over the next two years. TELUS will provide the retail ISP with Internet network infrastructure and services.
The company also recently extended its three year contract with RBC Financial Group to six years, also expanding the scope of services in the agreement. The total minimum contracted value of this deal is now $33 million.
In addition to these deals, the company says it has also recently concluded contracts to provide Web hosting services through its Toronto Internet data center to the National Life Assurance Company of Canada Inc., National Computer Professionals and Soltrus.
