📅 - Managed infrastructure solution provider Interliant Inc. (interliant.com) announced on Tuesday that it has released a new bandwidth management service designed to ensure the performance of an organization's critical applications.
Based on Packeteer's PacketShaper application performance and bandwidth management system, says Interliant, the new service allows network administrators to identify traffic on the network at the application layer and assign policies to prioritize each type, limiting non-essential traffic and assuring ample bandwidth for critical traffic.

Interliant says the service uses the PacketShaper system to help customers maximize the return on their network and application infrastructures and avoid unnecessary bandwidth upgrades. It provides information to network administrators by discovering, classifying and analyzing application and traffic performance.
The company says it uses the information gathered to help customers develop custom policies for application and traffic prioritization, allowing administrators to ensure that bandwidth allocation and use is aligned with business priorities.
