Jul, 2002 : Intrusion Protection Market Growing: IDC

📅 - The market for Web intrusion protection will grow to almost $700 million by 2006, compared to $65 million in 2001, an enormous annual growth rate of 60.5 percent, says a new report by research organization IDC (idc.com).

According to IDC, hackers and crackers continue to penetrate Web sites, despite billions spent on network security, meaning corporations are still vulnerable.
"With the Web intrusion protection market to nearly triple, the vast majority of existing vendors, and some yet-to-emerge vendors, will benefit greatly from the forthcoming realization that network security tools, such as firewalls and IDS, must be augmented by strong Web intrusion protection mechanisms," said Charles Kolodgy, research manager for IDC's Internet Security Software service.
IDC says a number of companies are working to develop tools that solve the specific vulnerabilities of Web servers and Web applications, encompassing a variety of technologies.
The report, titled ?Web Intrusion Protection: Defending Web Servers and Applications,? says IDC, explains the reasoning behind the growth of the intrusion protection market, and includes a discussion of market conditions as well as vendors and products.
