📅 - Data center space operator Equinix (equinix.com) announced on Wednesday that it will acquire colocation services provider IXEurope (ixeurope.com). The acquisition will bring its Equinix's total footprint to more than three million square feet of data center space spanning 17 markets in the US, Europe and Asia-Pacific, making it the most comprehensive, network neutral, global service provider in the market. Equinix will integrate IXEurope's network-neutral data center business and operations under the Equinix brand. IXEurope's business includes 14 data centers comprising more than 380,000 square feet of net sellable space throughout Europe, including centers in London, Zurich, Frankfurt, Munich, Paris, Dusseldorf and Geneva.
"The biggest benefit is that it gives us immediate reach into what we feel is one of the fastest growing markets in the world," says Margie Backaus, Equinix chief business officer. "Just in terms of the partnership this brings from the growth perspective, financially to us, is very beneficial to us."
The acquisition, which is expected to be completed in mid-September, will allow Equinix to immediately expand into the European market, as well as enable the company to provide customers with a single-source global solution for its data center and network connectivity services.
Equinix recently announced it acquired a new data center property in the Los Angeles, California area as well as expand on an existing center in the Silicon Valley.
