OK, at first I was looking for a wordpress MU hosting. with Godaddy, I need to buy an dedicated IP which is fine but I can't find a good tutorial or support on setting up a WPMU site. Then I find TMDhosting offering wpmu hosting at an attractive price, it is like $45/year inclusive a domain name! so really great deal, 'unlimited' bandwidth and mysql database.
my wpmu install only lasted about 5,6 months before my site is suspended for huge query on mysql database, as they say, but I wasn't provided any stat number. I didn't request it but I'm intelligent enough to understand to stat/usage if they provide it to me, just a matter of seeing how far they'll go for customer support. I was buying the offer of 'UNLIMITED' bandwidth and mysql database, but no clue to the 'limited mysql query time'. At the same time, I was offered dedicated hosting and professional mysql database optimization, which I did it myself the latter, optimizing mysql table.
then came the day when they suspended my account, without offering any solution (exect UPGRADE to DEDICATED SERVER), and any prior notice. Given excellent customer support so far, I was expecting some sort communication before/after the suspension. nothing.
Then, I've submitted a ticket requesting to backup the database, claimed to be close to 1Gb by TMD support personal, I end up receiving a database of less then 100mb, un-compressed. I faithfully imported the tables at godaddy shared account, and I've recovered less than 10% my total wpmu blog sites before it was suspended. That was final moment with them. I bought a public/fixed ip at godaddy for my share hosting account there, installed wpmu and move on.. for just extra $3/month, after 3 months with godaddy, my wpmu site grows to 5000 blogs, twice the size when TMDhosting suspended my account. Now I HAPPILY UPGRADED my wpmu site to DEDICATED SERVER with godaddy.
Last month, I received email from TMDhosting customer relation, with subject "TMDHosting Server upgrade for blogdia.com". Frankly, I'm not impressed by this email, it is like two three months after my site was suspended, and I'm moving on well with godaddy.
Better customer support than godaddy, but no point if my site is down. TMDhosting should expect the amount of traffic which will be generated by a wpmu site. To me, it is only a honey pot type of business, offering a good starting price ($46/year plus domain) and you need to upgrade it to VPS hosting ($150/month!) in no time.
I'm happy paying $70/month for godaddy dedicated (not vps) now.
