Project SkyBender from Google Includes Testing Solar Powered Drones


📅 - The Guardian newspaper from the UK has reported that many sources are suggesting Google is testing solar-powered drones secretly. Many believe the ultimate goal is to provide 5G internet services from the drones. The project has been named Project SkyBender and the testing is taking place at Spaceport America found in the Jornada del Muerto desert in New Mexico.

The reports show the drones testing millimeter wave radio transmission, which may be able to offer speeds 40 times faster than 4G LTE. Even though it's faster, radio transmissions offer less range than 4G.
