I've had a love-hate relationship with Startlogic but if I'm honest I've had a lot hate relationship with half seven others I've used off and on for years as well. I do not believe that they deserve a 1 though and I understand the frustration (trust me) when sites are down, clients or employers screaming & support not helping or not helping fast enough.
I However I have noticed an extreme uptick in the quality of their tech support people and it is far from the company that they were 10 years ago. I am no longer in business for myself but still host a handful of personal websites and domains. I also think because I have had that 14-15 yrs of being a consistent customer that I am treated better. It shouldn't be that way, but its consistent with every other company (not just domain companies). If you have a long-term relationship then they're generally far more motivated to keep you as a customer. have had them give me special breaks during rough economic times and they've been very flexible when i need it the most.
I'm not saying they're a 10, that they fart glitter and shoot rainbows from their eyes. There are still some employees (the older ones who've yet been fired or left on their own accord) that can be a hassle.
I have had no difference in uptime/downtime than any other hosting provider & at one time I had 5 at the same time. I've experienced hacks, exploits and crashes over all those domains. Some help solve it, some leave it to you to figure out. I have had some good experiences on them guiding me to where I can fix the problem and sometimes even doing it for me (when I was very new, I was petrified of doing mysql changes, now I have no issue but that was 14 yrs ago...
I will only name one other hosting provider and it is just to give everyone an understanding of transparency. I had JustHost and their reseller domain (name is escaping me at the moment, that was 7 yrs ago). JustHost is owned by BlueHost now if I am not mistaken. Ehost is also, our work had sites on there that I had to migrate to bluehost when it was bought. Justhost remained its separate identity but is still owned by bluehost.
