First off, I no longer host with StartLogic. I cancelled my account with them last March(2010) and last April(2010). I was with them for 2 years and had the same problems all through that time with them, especially with customer service.
I also have very little knowledge regarding websites.....total 'needs 101 Websites for Idiots' book.......even after hosting with StartLogic for two years. They are definently not 'user friendly'.
I wish I'd learned how to search out 'reviews' for web hosts before I signed up with them.
I've been searching for a new web host after my experience with them, and finally picked Hostgator a couple of days ago. We'll see how that goes. I still haven't gotten to use my site yet. Just learned today (after researching for days!) about DNS settings and how to change them. (I registered my domain names with some else so they would be mine, and I could 'take them with me' as it were.) Hostgator custsrv was great on what settings to use. I still have to wait at least 48 hrs before I can start on my web site. (frowny face)
Anyway......
1) StartLogic's customer service is very technical and hard for a newbie to understand...very aggravating......and not very helpful, which I stated in the survey when I cancelled.
I managed to figure out how to set-up my website (after hours of using the 'search & help' pages-anytime I asked support questions, they said 'ask the webmaster'. Ha! I WAS THE WEBMASTER!!!!! and when I told them that, their responce was 'we can't help with that, check the 'help & search' database. Needless to say, I spend more time 'searching' then I did anything else.
2) Their WYSWIG- you know, the 'what you see is what you get' function? really wasn't. The 'preview' was great, but then I learned to check my actual site and it DID NOT look like it had in the preview. It made me sooooo mad! I never could get it to look like I WANTED IT TOO, just the way it let me.....meaning I had to keep checking the real web site if I make any changes, then would have to re-do the changes to fit.
3) Control Panel-Not user friendly. It took me awhile to figure it out.....
4) Billing-It's a good thing I had not updated my credit card information prior to the automatic renewals on my accounts. I did everything 'search' & 'help' said to do to take my account off 'auto renewal' (I knew then I wasn't going to) and even logged out then back in to make sure all changes were done, they showed they were, so I didn't worry about it after that. I should have. I kept getting emails from them that said my accounts would be 'auto renewed', I'd double check it was marked NOT to 'auto renew', even contacted support about it, they said not to worry, it would be fine. Well, they kept trying to 'renew' my accounts....but since my card info hadn't been updated, they couldn't charge me. THANK GOD for that, otherwise I'd have been out quite a bit of money and all the hassle of trying to get it back.
Now, I'm trying different 'review' sites for web hosts, and I gotta tell ya, not a one has much good to say about any web host!
It's very disheartening.....
