First off... I am reviewing domain.com and am merely in this position for a client of mine I have recently began work for. I had to do a simple task such as change the nameservers to point to their new servers.
Let's start with the 30 minute wait time just to have my Live Chat acknowledged. I am certain that puts people in a good mood... didn't work for me however.
Next is reviewing their client area. It is incredibly archaic and every element of their system seems to be out-dated. The words User Interface DO NOT exist in their arena. The dashboard is incredibly hard to navigate as there is no direction... just looks for various promotion and incredibly out-dated FAQs.
The domain wasn't listed in the clients dashboard whom just renewed the domain around 3 weeks before me writing this message. All I saw was an expired domain that the client had around 3 years ago. I contacted live support in an attempt to get to the bottom of this mystery.
Support didn't ask me anything about me, the account... nothing. They informed me they could see the domain in my account. Baffled I sent them a quick screen shot of what I saw and how the domain was not there. I was then (after providing user info and the screenshot) that this isn't the right account and the Support Op could see it. Basically, "You need to contact your client and get the right information for this domain".
What's more interesting. I contacted my client in regards to the lack of the domain being available as this may not be the right account info - an expired account perhaps that they still had lying around and gotten confused with their new account (fair enough)... NOPE! They provided me a forwarded email which clearly shows that the renewal was from this particular account - just so happens the domain is in limbo.. support can see it... claims it's not the right account... will not give me the username (as a courtesy hint) for where the new account/domain is located... I'm not asking for a password... just the supposed username... they don't provide it.
This tells me 1 of 2 things. They screwed up and their registration systems for domains is as out-dated as their client area and simply doesn't perform like it did at the change of the millennium
OR
The Support Op wasn't really looking at anything and was merely nodding his head to move on to the end of another work day. I feel bad for my client not knowing any better and purchasing anything from this company. Guys, if any of you out there need to just register a domain name... Go with one of the big players... leave these little out-dated companies to either grow up and adapt to modern times... or stagnate and do us all a favor and close up shop.
