ZoneEdit is one of the older DNS-focused brands on the Internet, founded in 2000 by Eric Aronesty and Mike Krebs. Its history is important because this is not a typical shared-hosting brand that later added DNS as a side feature. ZoneEdit has always been centered on DNS management, dynamic DNS, domain control, forwarding, and Internet infrastructure. The company operated the U.S. .GOV TLD in 2003, reached 1 million zones under management in 2005, was acquired by Dotster (dotster.com) in 2006, passed through the Endurance International Group (endurance.com) period after Dotster’s acquisition, and then became part of easyDNS in 2014.

ZoneEdit is best understood as a DNS Hosting / Dynamic DNS / Domain Management provider. Their service portfolio includes Managed DNS, Free DNS, Dynamic DNS, Domain Registration, Email Forwarding, Web Forwarding, Backup MX, Tertiary DNS, DNS Failover, HTTPS Web Forwarding, Outbound SMTP / ZoneOut, SSL Certificates, and a small shared web hosting product line named TheWEB.zone. They do not focus on VPS, dedicated servers, reseller hosting, cloud servers, or colocation under the ZoneEdit brand.

The Free DNS service remains one of the most important parts of the offer. Free DNS accounts include 2 production nameservers in separate datacenters, 250,000 monthly DNS queries, Dynamic DNS, URL forwarding, email forwarding, and full DNS zone control for common records such as A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, NS, SRV, TXT, NAPTR and IPv6-related entries. That makes the free plan useful for personal domains, hobby projects, community sites, development use, and low-risk websites. Business domains are better suited to paid DNS because premium service brings better support priority and stronger redundancy options.

The paid DNS platform is credit-based and flexible. Managed DNS includes Primary DNS with 3 nameservers, Dynamic DNS, WebForward, and MailForward. Optional paid add-ons include Tertiary DNS, Backup MX, Failover, and HTTPS Web Forwarding. For technical users, the control depth is still a strength: ZoneEdit supports round-robin DNS, domain apex aliasing, DNS sanity checks, SMTP port forwarding, reverse DNS use cases, DNS zone backups, rollback, DNSSEC, IPv6-enabled nameservers, and Dynamic DNS clients used by routers and applications.

TheWEB.zone shared hosting is more limited. It includes Hobby, SOHO, and Business plans with SFTP, CGI access, MySQL databases, web statistics, a web-based file manager, Perl, PHP, Python, .htaccess support, Apache mod_rewrite, server-side includes, daily backups, and redundant infrastructure. This works for simple websites, small static sites, light PHP projects, or legacy hosting needs. It is not the strongest choice for a modern WordPress, WooCommerce, Laravel, or application-heavy website because the hosting specs still reference PHP 5.4 and MySQL 5.5, which are very old technology versions by current standards.

The website is functional but not fully polished. Some pages still contain placeholder-style text in lower page blocks, and the hosting section has dated technical references. This does not damage the core DNS product, but it does make ZoneEdit look more like a legacy DNS utility brand than a modern hosting company with a heavily refreshed commercial website.
