📄 Editorial Review

ZiD Internet is a long-established Canadian Internet and hosting provider based in Brossard, Quebec, operating as a division of ZYMOS Computer Systems Inc. ZiD's Internet operation dates to 1997, while its domain-registration activity reaches back to 1996. The ZYMOS name has an even longer history, with Canadian trademark activity dating to 1990.

The company combines Shared Hosting, VPS, Dedicated Servers, Domain Registration, DNS, Email, SSL Certificates, Website Builder and Web Design with broader Internet and telecommunications services. ZiD owns its servers and networking equipment and operates Canadian hosting infrastructure in the Montreal area, giving it considerably more direct control over the underlying environment than a simple reseller-based hosting company.

Shared hosting is available on both Linux and Windows, making ZiD particularly relevant for customers who still require Microsoft technologies alongside conventional PHP/MySQL hosting. Linux packages range from Mini through Commander, while the Windows range consists of Mini, Entry, Personal, Pro and Corporate plans.

Shared hosting allocations are relatively conservative by current standards. Storage runs from 600 MB to 2 GB, email accounts from 10 to 150, monthly bandwidth from 5 GB to 150 GB, and database allowances from one to eight. Linux hosting supports PHP, MySQL, phpMyAdmin, Python, Perl and Ruby on Rails, while Windows hosting adds ASP, ASP.NET and Microsoft SQL Server capabilities. Backups, file management, webmail, autoresponders, email forwarding, mailing lists and visitor statistics are included.

Plesk is used for shared hosting administration. Application installation includes popular CMS platforms such as WordPress, Joomla and Drupal. WordPress can therefore be operated on the regular hosting platform, although there is no separate managed WordPress product with the type of optimized resource allocation and management features now common among specialist WordPress providers.

Some of the technical specifications belong to an older generation of hosting, including references to PHP 5 and older web applications. Customers running current WordPress, WooCommerce or custom PHP applications should confirm the available PHP and database versions before migrating an existing project.

VPS Hosting is available with Linux or Windows and provides full root or Administrator access. Three standard configurations range from one to three CPUs, 20 GB to 80 GB storage and 1,000 GB to 2,500 GB of bandwidth. VPS services include RAID 5 storage, daily backups, hardware maintenance, DNS, UPS and generator protection, and 24/7 server monitoring.

One of the published VPS configurations still contains a legacy RAM specification showing "512K," which clearly does not represent a practical modern virtual server allocation. The current memory allocation should therefore be confirmed before ordering.

Dedicated Servers are available with Linux or Windows and full administrative access. CPU, memory, storage and operating-system options can be customized. Standard configurations use RAID 1 and include 10 Mbps unmetered connectivity.

The dedicated-server range also reflects an older generation of hardware, including Celeron processors, older dual-core CPUs, DDR3 memory and SATA storage. ZiD can still be suitable for customers requiring dedicated Canadian infrastructure, but anyone ordering a new server should request the current CPU generation, RAM type, storage technology and network-port specification rather than relying on the older standard configurations.

Backup information for dedicated systems contains a discrepancy between daily and weekly schedules, so the exact backup frequency and retention period should also be confirmed when ordering.

Domain registration has been part of ZiD's business for decades. The company is a certified registrar for .CA domains through CIRA and supports numerous generic and international extensions including .com, .net, .org, .biz, .info, .me, .co, .mobi and .quebec. French-accented domain names are supported for several extensions.

Generic-domain services have also been associated with eNom as an upstream ICANN registrar. Domain customers receive DNS-management facilities and can add services such as domain parking, email, email forwarding, URL forwarding and cloaking.

Free domain parking is available. Paid domain email provides three mailboxes together with webmail, antivirus and spam filtering, while separate forwarding services are available for customers who only need email or URL redirection.

The SSL portfolio includes RapidSSL, QuickSSL and True BusinessID with EV, covering basic domain validation through extended validation. Some SSL terminology and compatibility references are dated, so customers should confirm the current certificate brand and validation product before purchase.

The Website Builder uses Plesk Sitebuilder and includes browser-based page creation, templates, WYSIWYG editing, blogs, photo galleries, forums, forms and downloadable-content modules. ZiD also provides custom web-development services covering graphic design, web applications, e-commerce development, training and website promotion.

The website itself retains a distinctly older hosting-era design, with legacy CFML pages, narrow layouts and product information that has accumulated over many years. It remains usable, but it does not have the modern responsive presentation expected from newer hosting companies. The age of the interface also makes it especially important to confirm current server specifications when ordering higher-end services.

ZiD primarily serves customers in English and French. The main zid.com website is in English, while French-language content is available through zid.ca. Hosting and domain prices are primarily quoted in Canadian dollars (CAD).
