WebStarts is a U.S.-based website builder and managed web hosting platform created by Adam Barger, who remains associated with the business as founder and CEO. The service traces its history to 2004, the date consistently used throughout WebStarts itself, although outside business directories contain later dates: BBB records give a 2006 business start and LinkedIn lists 2007. The current Florida corporation, WEBSTARTS, INC., was filed in 2017 and remains active, with Adam Barger registered as an officer/director.

WebStarts has grown into considerably more than the simple free-site builder associated with its early years. More than 3.8 million websites have been built and hosted through the platform. It remains a relatively small privately operated business; LinkedIn places the organization in the 2-10 employee range.

The service is primarily a Website Builder, Managed Web Hosting, Domain, Business Email and Ecommerce platform rather than conventional hosting. There are no shared-hosting accounts with FTP and database administration in the traditional sense, and there are no VPS, dedicated servers, reseller servers or colocation products. Hosting is integrated directly into the website-building environment, removing the need to configure a web server, database, software stack or conventional hosting control panel.

The core WebStarts Website Builder uses a true visual drag-and-drop editor where page elements can be positioned freely instead of being restricted to predefined content blocks. Sites can be edited from desktop or mobile devices, while mobile-specific versions can be created manually or with AI assistance. The current toolset includes AI-generated text and images, forms, galleries, slideshows, animations, calendars, maps, document embedding, audio and video, notifications, HTML/code embedding and SEO tools.

AI has become a significant part of the platform. WebStarts can generate and revise website copy, blog posts, SEO content and images. An AI Knowledge Chatbot was introduced in 2026 and can scan website content to answer visitor questions around the clock. Questions that cannot be answered confidently can be passed to the website operator; manually supplied answers can then be incorporated into the chatbot's knowledge base. The operator can also disable AI responses and switch a conversation to ordinary human live chat.

The integrated Blog supports scheduled publishing, drafts, categories, contributor permissions, SEO-oriented heading formatting and mobile posting. This makes it suitable for small businesses and content-driven websites without requiring a separate WordPress installation.

The WebStarts Store provides a complete ecommerce layer for selling physical and digital goods. Store owners can manage products, variants, inventory, customers and orders, import products from spreadsheets, create custom shipping rules and sell downloadable products such as ebooks, media and software. Checkout processing can use Stripe (stripe.com), PayPal (paypal.com) or Authorize.Net (authorize.net), while additional options include Google Pay, Klarna, Afterpay/Clearpay and Affirm depending on the connected processor. Store currency can also be changed from U.S. dollars when Stripe or PayPal is used.

Business-oriented applications include appointment booking, automated SMS/email reminders, lead forms, contact management, memberships, live website chat and email marketing. Booking supports service scheduling, availability management and buffers between appointments. Members-only pages can use account registration and either automatic or manual member approval.

The Email Marketing system handles broadcast campaigns and automated follow-up sequences, with leads feeding directly from WebStarts forms into mailing lists. Business accounts support up to 2,500 subscribers and as many as 25,000 included email sends per month before overage pricing begins.

Professional domain-based email is also available. Individual mailboxes provide 1 GB of storage, IMAP/POP access and a daily sending limit that ramps to 500 messages per day. Extra mailbox storage is metered at $6 per additional GB. The current email documentation prices standalone mailboxes at $84/year or $10/month. Since the Individual and Business pricing table also includes a "Custom Email Address," customers should confirm the exact mailbox entitlement included with a particular subscription before purchasing additional accounts.

Domain management is integrated directly into the dashboard. Customers can register a new domain, attach a domain registered elsewhere, transfer a domain into WebStarts or create subdomains. External domains can use WebStarts nameservers or simply point their A records to the hosting platform. Paid plans also support SSL, with certificates automatically provisioned once a domain is correctly connected.

A particularly interesting option is WebStarts for Agencies. Agency features can currently be enabled without an additional platform fee and add multi-client website management, reusable page/design templates, white-label branding, customized client login portals, advanced domain administration, watermarking and customer billing. Agencies can send one-time or recurring invoices and charge their own clients for design work or hosting while retaining their own pricing structure.

The website and management environment are currently English-only, with no complete multilingual WebStarts interface available. Pricing is displayed in USD. The site itself is modern, responsive and actively maintained, with substantial attention given to mobile administration and AI functionality rather than retaining the limited-width design common to older website-builder platforms.
