Webnames.ru is a long-established Russian domain registrar and hosting provider operated primarily through Regtime LLC. The company was founded on November 3, 2000, while the Webnames.ru domain was registered in September 2001 and the domain-registration portal began operating in 2002. Hosting services followed in 2006, and ICANN accreditation was obtained in 2007.

Sergey Sharikov and Alexey Sozonov founded Webnames.ru and played an active role in the development of Cyrillic domain names. In 2012, both were among the initiators of the ISOC Russia Chapter. The company also participated in the introduction of the Cyrillic .РУС extension and became one of the early Russian registrars supporting internationalized domain names.

Webnames.ru has developed into one of the larger Russian domain-management platforms, with approximately 500,000 domains under management, 3,000 partners, 30 offices and more than 200,000 customers. Its domain catalog covers more than 350 national and international extensions, including RU, РФ, SU, COM, NET, ORG and many newer generic extensions.

The service portfolio combines domain registration, domain transfers, domain auctions, expired-domain services, WHOIS, DNS management, DNSSEC, registration-data protection, Shared Hosting, VPS/VDS, Dedicated Servers, Business Email, SSL Certificates, Website Builder tools and partner services. This gives customers a practical way to manage domains, hosting, email and website security from one account.

The Shared Hosting range uses Linux servers and NVMe storage. The Start plan includes 5 GB of storage and supports five websites. Optima increases the allowance to 12 GB and 15 websites, Expert includes 30 GB and 50 websites, while Maximum provides 100 GB and supports up to 50 websites.

All shared-hosting packages support PHP, MySQL, unlimited SQL databases, unlimited website traffic, FTP access, Cron jobs and Cyrillic domains. Start and Optima include 512 MB of memory, while Expert and Maximum include 1 GB. Each account supports up to 50 FTP users, and hosting data remains available for 30 days after the paid period expires.

Shared hosting also includes free SSL certificates, domain-based email, backups, one-click CMS installation, DNS administration, antivirus protection, DDoS protection, a Cron manager and integration with Cloudflare. A technical third-level domain is available when the customer does not yet own a domain. Annual hosting packages can also include one RU, РФ or РУС domain free for the first year.

The VPS/VDS range consists of four SSD-based virtual-server configurations. Resources start with one 2.2 GHz vCPU, 512 MB RAM and 30 GB SSD storage and increase to four vCPUs, 4 GB RAM and 120 GB SSD storage. Every virtual server includes one IP address.

Available operating systems include Debian 12, Debian 13, Ubuntu 24.10 and Ubuntu 25.04. Full SSH access gives experienced customers considerably more control than shared hosting, although the smallest 512 MB package is suitable only for very lightweight applications.

The Dedicated Server range includes four configurations with unlimited traffic, 100 Mbps connectivity, two IP addresses, IPMI access and software or hardware RAID. IPMI allows remote operating-system installation, power management and troubleshooting without physical access to the server.

This part of the portfolio is much less competitive than the shared and VPS services. The available configurations use dual Intel Xeon L5310, L5335 or L5440 processors, SATA disks and operating systems such as CentOS 7, Debian 8, Debian 9 and Ubuntu 16.04. These are legacy platforms, and dedicated-server customers should request confirmation of the actual hardware and supported operating systems before placing an order.

The Website Builder is designed for simple business websites, landing pages and portfolios. It includes more than 200 responsive templates, mobile adaptation, contact forms, domain email, custom HTML support, payment links and website export. Webnames branding can also be removed. The builder is included with current website-builder hosting packages, although some older tariff information still treats it as a separate monthly option.

The Business Email service operates through the shared-hosting platform and can be used even when the website itself is hosted elsewhere. Depending on the hosting package, customers can create between 50 and 500 mailboxes. Email is accessible through webmail, desktop applications and mobile devices, while administrators retain control over mailbox settings and stored files.

Business Email is not suitable for newsletters or mass-mailing campaigns because every mailbox is limited to 30 outgoing messages per hour. Incoming email is not affected by this limit.

Free SSL certificates are available for standard domain validation, while paid single-domain and wildcard certificates are also offered. Other domain-related services include redirects, domain parking, virtual business cards, DNS hosting, WHOIS privacy, SMS notifications, enhanced account security and legal consultation.

The partner program is primarily designed for domain resellers and large portfolio owners. Permanent partner levels reduce domain prices according to lifetime spending or the number of transferred domains. Professional partners can automate domain registrations and management through the RegtimeSRS API. The current program is centered on domain reselling rather than a complete white-label reseller-hosting platform.

Russian is the main website and support language. An English interface also exists, although several account, help and product sections remain in Russian. The main ordering interface is reasonably modern, while some older CGI-based areas use narrow layouts and visibly dated content. The dedicated-server section is the clearest example of a service area that needs modernization.
