📄 Editorial Review

WADAX is a long-established Japanese business hosting brand with roots dating back to 1998. The company developed in Osaka around business-oriented managed hosting, security and direct technical assistance rather than competing primarily on low-cost mass-market hosting. Dai Wada was the representative director during its earlier expansion, and by 2010 WADAX had grown to approximately 24,000 service contracts.

A major corporate change took place in August 2010, when GMO Hosting & Security acquired all 200 shares of IT Next Holdings, the parent company of Wadax Co., Ltd., for JPY 779 million. WADAX consequently became part of the GMO group. Wadax Co., Ltd. was renamed GMO Cloud WEST in February 2012, and GMO Cloud WEST was integrated into GMO Cloud in July 2015. The WADAX hosting business is now operated by GMO GlobalSign Holdings (gmogshd.com).

The current portfolio covers WordPress shared hosting, business email hosting, managed and self-managed cloud servers, Linux and Windows dedicated servers, domains, SSL certificates, CDN services, managed databases and related security and administration options. WADAX is particularly suitable for Japanese companies that prefer hosting with ongoing technical management instead of maintaining every server component internally.

Security WP Server is the main shared hosting product and is specifically optimized for WordPress. The standard environment includes 50 GB SSD storage, up to 20 MySQL/MariaDB databases, ten multidomains, ten FTP accounts and unlimited data transfer. Security features include WAF protection, IPS, DoS/DDoS defenses, periodic vulnerability checks, web malware scanning, HTTP/2, CDN acceleration and free SSL.

WordPress administration is considerably more complete than on a basic shared hosting package. Plesk Obsidian and WordPress Toolkit are included, providing WordPress installation, centralized management, core/plugin/theme updates, backup and restore, maintenance mode and migration functions. This combination works well for companies that want a familiar WordPress environment while reducing routine administration and security work.

Mail Service is available separately from web hosting. Small, Middle and Large packages provide 20 GB, 50 GB and 100 GB of SSD storage respectively, while the number of email accounts is unlimited. The service includes SMTP, SMTP authentication, submission, POP3, IMAP, encrypted mail protocols, webmail, forwarding, autoresponders and mailing lists.

Email security includes virus scanning and spam filtering, together with SPF, DKIM and DMARC support. Multidomain operation is supported, and the larger packages increase the number of mailing lists available.

Assist Cloud Server combines WADAX management with infrastructure from AWS. Servers operate from the Asia Pacific (Tokyo) region and are available as either managed or self-managed systems. This approach is useful for companies that want AWS-based infrastructure without directly assembling and administering each AWS component.

Standard Linux cloud configurations range from 2 to 8 vCPU, 4 GB to 32 GB RAM, 100 GB SSD storage and one fixed IPv4 address. Each base configuration includes 1 TB of monthly transfer. When the included traffic allocation is exceeded, throughput is restricted to 128 Kbps unless additional transfer capacity is purchased, so bandwidth requirements deserve careful consideration before deployment.

Managed Assist Cloud adds monitoring, operating-system maintenance and additional security administration. Plesk Obsidian Web Host Edition is included with managed Linux servers, while self-managed customers can add Plesk separately. WAF, IPS/DDoS protection, malware defenses, SSL support, snapshots and expandable server resources make this a practical option for companies without a dedicated infrastructure team.

An optional Database Server extends Assist Cloud with managed MySQL/MariaDB resources. It includes 24/365 monitoring, security maintenance and automatic daily backups retained for seven days. Configurations range from 2 to 8 vCPU, 8 GB to 32 GB RAM and 100 GB SSD storage in Tokyo, with phpMyAdmin available for database administration.

The CDN option uses Amazon CloudFront and distributes static content through global edge infrastructure across North America, Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Africa. WADAX combines this with monitoring, DDoS resilience, apex-domain support and SSL administration. Packages include either 500 GB or 1 TB of monthly CDN transfer.

Private Server is the dedicated server range. Both managed and self-managed Linux configurations are available with SSD or SAS HDD storage, and RAID10 is used for storage redundancy. SSD configurations extend from four-core/eight-thread systems with 16 GB RAM to 16-core/32-thread systems with 32 GB RAM. AlmaLinux 8 and 9 are available without an additional operating-system charge, while Red Hat Enterprise Linux is available as a paid option.

Managed dedicated hosting is one of WADAX's strongest business services. It combines server monitoring, operating-system maintenance, security maintenance, disk-capacity monitoring, firewall protection and incident recovery assistance with a 99.95% SLA. Standard Linux dedicated connectivity reaches 1 Gbps on a shared connection with unlimited traffic, together with redundant network design on qualifying configurations.

Self-managed dedicated servers provide root-level control while retaining infrastructure protections such as IPS and DoS/DDoS mitigation. Free 24/365 reboot assistance remains available, while Plesk can be licensed separately when a graphical hosting panel is preferred.

Windows Dedicated Server is also available, although the service differs noticeably from the Linux range. Windows configurations use Windows Server and RAID10 storage, but they do not receive the standard 99.95% dedicated-server SLA or the same redundant-network feature. Their standard connection is 100 Mbps shared rather than the 1 Gbps shared connection available with the main Linux dedicated configurations, and Plesk is not available.

Domain registration is offered both with hosting and as a standalone service. Available extensions include Japanese domains such as .jp and .co.jp, common generic extensions including .com, .net and .org, and alternatives such as .shop and .tokyo. Standalone gTLD service is more appropriate for new registrations than for large transfer-based consolidation, since domain-only inbound transfers are restricted.

SSL options include free Let's Encrypt certificates and commercial certificates from GlobalSign. Available commercial certificate types include domain-validated, organization-validated, EV, wildcard and multidomain certificates. Eligible third-party certificates can also be used.

A fixed-IP access service is available for business environments where firewalls, administration systems or applications restrict access according to source IP. It uses WireGuard technology and provides customers with a consistent outgoing address.

WADAX remains strongly focused on the Japanese market. The website, ordering process, documentation and customer assistance are essentially Japanese-only, and no complete English localization exists. Services are priced in Japanese yen (JPY), with prices generally shown including Japanese consumption tax.
