Voyager is a New Zealand-owned telecommunications and hosting provider founded in 2010 by entrepreneur Seeby Woodhouse. He led the company through its first six years and returned as CEO on October 1, 2025. Voyager serves more than 30,000 customers, employs over 100 people, and maintains operations in Auckland, Christchurch, and Wellington.

The company expanded through a combination of internal growth and acquisitions. Voyager acquired Actrix in October 2016, adding approximately 10,000 customers, 20 employees, and a stronger residential Internet presence. Earlier acquisitions included Net24, 1st Domains, Register Direct, Expired Domains, C-Talk, and Digital Genus. The September 2017 acquisition of Conversant strengthened its business voice and VoIP portfolio, while HD Net was subsequently incorporated into Voyager’s wider operation. Voyager was named New Zealand’s fastest-growing company in the 2014 Deloitte Fast 50 after achieving growth of 1,391%.

Voyager offers a much broader portfolio than a conventional shared-hosting provider. Its services include Linux hosting, Windows hosting, WordPress hosting, email hosting, Microsoft SQL databases, VPS, high-availability cloud servers, virtual data centres, dedicated servers, colocation, domain registration, and Microsoft 365. Businesses can begin with a relatively simple website or mailbox package and later migrate to virtual infrastructure, private cloud resources, or dedicated hardware without leaving the same provider.

Shared Hosting uses clustered server infrastructure capable of moving websites away from a failed server. Linux and Windows packages include unmetered traffic, daily off-site backups, email accounts, databases, webmail, visitor statistics, and continuous infrastructure monitoring. There are no hosting setup fees or mandatory fixed-term contracts. Shell access is not included with shared hosting, so developers requiring SSH, custom software, or full operating-system control need a VPS or cloud server.

WordPress Hosting uses the same three main resource levels as shared hosting and adds one-click WordPress installation together with a management toolkit. Customers can manage updates, themes, plugins, staging environments, website cloning, security checks, and backup restoration from a central interface. This is a practical solution for small and medium-sized New Zealand websites that need locally hosted WordPress without direct server administration.

Domain registration is handled through 1st Domains (1stdomains.nz), a Voyager-owned brand supporting .nz, .co.nz, .kiwi, .com, and many other domain extensions. Domain parking is included, .nz transfers are available without an additional transfer charge, and customers manage registrations through a dedicated domain interface.

The entry-level VPS service uses KVM virtualization and SSD storage in Auckland. Each server includes full root or administrator access, unmetered domestic and international bandwidth, hourly billing with a monthly limit, flexible resource resizing, team access, two-factor authentication, a REST API, and cloud-init automation. Linux and Windows templates are available, together with preconfigured images for web servers, databases, VPN services, and hosting control panels. Businesses requiring automatic host-level recovery can use Cloud Servers running on a high-availability OpenStack platform. When a physical compute node fails, affected virtual machines restart on another available host. Clustered NVMe and SSD storage distributes data across multiple physical systems, reducing dependence on a single storage device. Cloud packages include 14 daily managed backups, encrypted storage, unmetered data transfer under a fair-use policy, root or administrator access, and support for both standard and custom operating-system images.

The Virtual Data Centre platform provides a more flexible infrastructure-as-a-service environment. Its self-service interface can deploy one or multiple virtual machines with configurable CPU, memory, storage tiers, IP addresses, backup capacity, site-to-site VPN connections, micro-segmentation, load balancing, and AES-256 encryption at rest. Incoming and outgoing platform traffic is not charged separately, and a seven-day free trial is available.

Dedicated Servers provide isolated single-tenant hardware with customizable operating systems, memory, and storage. Packages include unmetered bandwidth under a fair-use policy and are hosted in Voyager’s Auckland infrastructure. Proactive monitoring covers memory, storage devices, cooling fans, temperatures, power supplies, and motherboards. Failed physical components are repaired or replaced without a separate hardware replacement charge.

Colocation Hosting is available for individual devices and quarter-, half-, or full-rack deployments. Packages can include power allocation, a switch port, IP addresses, and 1 Gbps shared blended connectivity. Full-rack customers receive swipe-card access, while smaller colocation deployments use escorted access arrangements.

The website uses a modern and responsive English-language design. Services are priced in New Zealand dollars, generally excluding New Zealand GST. Some legacy Windows information remains inconsistent, with Windows Server 2016 appearing in detailed hosting information while an older general hosting FAQ references Windows Server 2008 R2.
