Visual Online (VO) is one of Luxembourg’s established Internet and hosting providers, with roots dating back to 1996. The original Visual Online S.à r.l. dates from March 1996, while Visual Online S.A. was established in December 2000. The company later became part of the POST Luxembourg group structure, with Entreprise des Postes et Télécommunications holding 51% and Trade-Comm S.à r.l., associated with the founders, retaining 49%. Visual Online has share capital of €563,500, while Claude Schuler serves as Managing Director and Director. The company’s early history is associated with Claude Schuler, Tom Kolbach, Christian Schmit and Christian Gatti.

VO is more than a conventional hosting company. Its activities combine Internet connectivity, network services, hosting, email, domains and physical infrastructure, making it particularly relevant to Luxembourg businesses that prefer dealing with a local telecommunications operator.

The hosting portfolio includes Shared Hosting, Dedicated Servers, Domain Registration, DNS, Hosted E-Mail, E-Mail Cloud Security, Colocation and related connectivity services. There is no general-purpose VPS range comparable with large cloud-oriented hosting companies, so the service portfolio is more focused on conventional hosting, dedicated infrastructure and business connectivity.

The Shared Hosting range is compact. Hosting L includes 5,000 MB of web storage, 25 FTP accounts and 10 MySQL databases, while Hosting XL increases the resources to 10,000 MB, 50 FTP accounts and 20 MySQL databases. Hosting ASBL provides a lower-cost alternative specifically for nonprofit associations.

Shared plans include traffic, automated Let’s Encrypt SSL certificates, PHP 7.x and PHP 8.x support, WordPress Toolkit, one-click application installation and Plesk. Storage allocations are relatively conservative compared with many high-volume international hosting brands, but the packages are well suited to smaller business websites, corporate sites and customers that value Luxembourg-based infrastructure.

The Dedicated Server range provides full root-level administration and supports Linux or Windows Server. Standard configurations use Intel Xeon E3 processors, DDR4 memory, SATA storage and switched 1 Gbit/s connectivity. Traffic is included, although the connection can be reduced to 100 Mbit/s after monthly traffic exceeds 20 TB. The Xeon E3-1220v5 and E3-1240v5 platforms are mature rather than current-generation hardware, so customers requiring high CPU density should compare the available configurations carefully.

The Hosted E-Mail service provides considerably more functionality than a basic POP3 mailbox. Accounts start with 1 GB of expandable storage and support POP3, IMAP, SMTP and EAS. Antivirus and spam filtering, browser-based webmail and disposable aliases are included.

Collaboration features include shared and private calendars, address books, tasks, notes and files. CalDAV, CardDAV, EAS and EWS synchronization are supported, while Dropbox, Google Drive and OneDrive can be integrated into the webmail environment. Recovery of deleted messages is also available in qualifying cases as a paid service.

Businesses operating their own mail systems can use E-Mail Cloud Security as a filtering layer in front of Exchange Server, Zimbra, Lotus, Postfix and similar platforms. It provides antivirus and anti-spam filtering, quarantine reports and mail queues. Incoming messages can remain queued when the destination mail server is temporarily unavailable, reducing the risk of mail loss during an outage.

The Domain service covers Luxembourg and international extensions. DNS-zone hosting is included, together with DNSSEC where supported by the corresponding registry, URL forwarding, domain parking and direct DNS and nameserver management. VO works with Fondation Restena for .lu domains, EURid for .eu and Key-Systems GmbH for other supported extensions.

Colocation is one of the strongest parts of the portfolio. Services range from individual rack units to half racks and full racks. Customers can use VO’s infrastructure in Contern or higher-tier facilities in Windhof. Available options include remote hands, metered electricity, redundant fiber connectivity, UPS and generator protection, controlled access and optional IP transit.

The company operates in a strongly local environment. Its websites are available in English, French and German, pricing is in EUR, and customer data and core infrastructure remain in Luxembourg. VO also modernized its corporate presentation and online customer services in 2022, including online ordering and stronger customer self-service capabilities.
