📄 Editorial Review

UDomain (UD) is a Hong Kong Internet infrastructure and hosting company founded in 1998. The business operates through UDomain Web Hosting Company Limited and has developed from traditional domain registration and web hosting into a much broader provider of cloud infrastructure, dedicated servers, colocation, managed services, content delivery, cybersecurity, enterprise connectivity and software development.

Its history is unusually long for an independent Hong Kong hosting provider. UDomain became a Tucows representative for the Greater China region in 1999 and established its first dedicated data-center operation in 2005. The company expanded significantly in 2010 through the acquisition of Web Host Ltd and New Sky Internet Ltd. Network capacity continued to grow during the following years, including 40 Gbps of direct HKIX capacity by 2016 and more than 100 Gbps by 2018.

UDomain now serves more than 25,000 customers and has over 100 developers and engineers supporting an infrastructure containing thousands of servers. Its customer base ranges from smaller Hong Kong companies to larger enterprises and public-sector organizations. The company has also participated in Hong Kong Government public-cloud initiatives and provides managed security services for business customers.

The portfolio covers Cloud Shared Hosting, Cloud Email Hosting, Managed Cloud Servers, OpenStack Cloud Servers, Dedicated Servers, Server Colocation, Multi-Cloud, Cloud Storage, Domain Registration, Hong Kong CDN, Global CDN, China Routing CDN, Dynamic CDN, Smart and Multi-CDN, SSL Certificates, Cloud Firewall, Web Application Firewall, DDoS mitigation, penetration testing, vulnerability scanning, VPN services, live streaming, web design and custom software development.

Cloud Web Hosting remains the conventional website-hosting option. Customers can choose services centered on Hong Kong, Mainland China connectivity or Taiwan. The China-oriented packages keep the hosting infrastructure in Hong Kong while improving routes toward Mainland China through premium CN2 connectivity. This arrangement is particularly useful for companies that need good Chinese network performance without moving their websites into Mainland China.

The China hosting range extends from relatively small static-site accounts to larger configurations suitable for WordPress, databases and business applications. Higher plans increase website storage, traffic, email and database resources. Linux environments with MySQL and Windows environments with Microsoft SQL Server or Access are available according to the selected package.

SSL support, email, spam protection, backup and server monitoring are integrated into the broader hosting environment. Smart DNS can also improve email connectivity for users accessing Hong Kong-hosted services from Mainland China.

Taiwan Cloud Hosting provides another regional option for websites whose visitors are concentrated in Taiwan. Economy, Professional and Enterprise configurations progressively increase website resources, databases, email capacity and traffic.

Email services are considerably more developed than the basic mailboxes commonly bundled with shared hosting. Cloud Email Hosting is available for both Hong Kong and China-oriented deployments and includes browser-based administration, multilingual webmail, encrypted POP3 and IMAP connections, aliases, forwarding, auto-responders, antivirus and anti-spam filtering.

The China email service combines Hong Kong mail infrastructure with Smart DNS. Users connecting from Mainland China can reach the mail environment through routes specifically intended to improve cross-border connectivity, while communication between the relevant network components remains encrypted.

Additional email services include SMTP connectivity and Catch SMTP. The SMTP option can use port 1025 where conventional SMTP access is restricted by a local ISP. Catch SMTP provides an additional method of retaining outgoing communications, while remote setup assistance is available for organizations that want UDomain to configure employee devices.

Managed Cloud Server is aimed at businesses that need isolated computing resources but do not want to handle the complete administration of an unmanaged virtual machine. Linux and Windows environments are available, with CPU, RAM, storage and network capacity scalable according to requirements. Continuous server monitoring and technical support are included within the managed-service model.

For developers and system administrators who prefer greater direct control, OpenCloud uses OpenStack infrastructure. Instances are available in Hong Kong, with US cloud capacity adding another deployment region. Ubuntu and Debian are supported, and the platform is suitable for Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, web applications and general development workloads.

OpenCloud can be extended with load balancing, URL monitoring, WAF protection, additional storage and China-oriented bandwidth. Plesk is also available as an optional license for customers who prefer graphical website and domain administration rather than relying entirely on command-line server management.

Dedicated Servers provide physical hardware for applications requiring predictable CPU, memory, storage and network resources. Typical uses include e-commerce platforms, databases, business applications, gaming, big-data processing, AI and machine-learning workloads and private-cloud deployments.

Configurations range from smaller servers with roughly four CPU cores, 16 GB RAM and mirrored SSD storage to much larger dual-processor systems with hundreds of gigabytes of memory and RAID10 SSD arrays. Servers connect through 1 Gbps networking, while Ubuntu is available without an additional operating-system license charge. Windows Server licensing is available at extra cost.

Server Colocation is available for businesses that prefer to install their own hardware. Full-rack arrangements can be combined with Hong Kong, global or China-oriented network services and continuous infrastructure monitoring. Colocation locations include Hong Kong facilities in areas such as Tsing Yi, San Po Kong and Sha Tin, depending on the selected configuration.

The CDN range is another major part of UDomain's infrastructure business. Available options include Hong Kong CDN, Global CDN, China Routing CDN, Dynamic CDN, video delivery and Smart/Hybrid/Multi-CDN. China acceleration uses premium CN2 GIA connectivity, while Dynamic CDN is suitable for applications using WebSockets, APIs or other traffic that cannot rely entirely on conventional static caching.

Security can be integrated directly into the CDN environment through DDoS mitigation, Web Application Firewall protection, rate limiting and SSL. Video delivery and streaming capabilities extend the platform beyond normal website acceleration to media, event and content-distribution workloads.

Mainland China connectivity is one of UDomain's strongest specialties. China-oriented services include CN2 networking, Smart DNS email routing, China Routing CDN, ICP-related assistance, China-focused domain registration and SSL-VPN. VPN configurations cover desktop users, mobile users and server connectivity, giving companies another option for connecting Hong Kong systems with employees or infrastructure in Mainland China.

Domain registration remains part of the core business. UDomain handles conventional extensions such as .com, .net and .org, Hong Kong domains including .hk and .com.hk, Mainland Chinese extensions such as .cn and .com.cn, internationalized Chinese domains and a large selection of newer generic extensions.

Additional domain-related services include domain valuation, escrow, brand monitoring, WHOIS history and Trademark Clearinghouse assistance, making the registrar operation suitable for corporate portfolios as well as ordinary individual registrations.

Web development has also remained part of the service range. UDomain handles WordPress development, corporate websites, custom web systems, mobile applications, system integration and AI-related software development, allowing hosting and application development to be combined under the same supplier.

Managed cybersecurity has become an important business area. Services include managed security, next-generation firewall deployment, Web Application Firewall protection, DDoS mitigation, penetration testing, vulnerability assessment, phishing simulation and security risk auditing. Fortinet technology is available within some of these managed security deployments.

The service is available in English, Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese, which is well suited to Hong Kong companies operating throughout Greater China. Hosting and infrastructure prices are primarily in Hong Kong dollars (HKD). The service environment is modern and responsive across desktop and mobile devices.
