📄 Editorial Review

SwissCenter is a long-established Swiss hosting and infrastructure provider based in Lausanne. The hosting operation dates back to 1995 and today operates as a division of OpenBusiness SA (openbusiness.com). The wider company history reaches back to 1991, when Pierre-Marie de Muralt founded SwissLink. Nicolas Fertig took over management in 1998 and became CEO and sole shareholder in 2005. SwissCenter currently hosts more than 10,000 domains internationally.

The service portfolio extends well beyond conventional shared hosting. It includes Linux shared hosting, reseller hosting, email hosting, Virtual Cloud servers, physical dedicated servers, colocation, private rack space, online storage, Hosted Exchange, Disaster Recovery, managed server administration, .CH domain services and SSL certificates. This makes the company suitable both for smaller websites and for businesses that want to keep hosting, servers, storage and datacenter services with the same Swiss provider.

Shared hosting is divided into Home, Business, Reseller Start and Reseller Pro. Home includes 30 GB of web storage plus 15 GB for email, five independent domains, unlimited MySQL databases, unlimited mailboxes, SSH access and unlimited traffic. Business increases capacity to 100 GB of web storage and 50 GB of mail storage, supports unlimited domains and adds remote database access, cron jobs, Node.js, Ruby on Rails and Python.

Reseller Start and Reseller Pro provide separate customer-management capabilities, supporting 10 or unlimited independent domains respectively. The hosting environment includes PHP versions from 7.0 through 8.5, MySQL 8.0, SSH, Awstats, POP3/IMAP, SSL-secured email protocols, antivirus and anti-spam protection. Backups cover seven days, while Let's Encrypt SSL certificates are included without additional charge.

Email services use SmarterMail and include webmail, calendars, contacts, tasks and synchronization functions. Migration facilities are available for services including Gmail, Yahoo and Microsoft Exchange. Some sections of the customer documentation retain references to older applications and services, reflecting SwissCenter's long operational history.

For customers requiring administrator-level access, the Virtual Cloud Server range uses Xen virtualization. The entry configuration includes one CPU core, 1 GB RAM, 50 GB storage, one public IPv4 address, root or administrator access, a 1 Gbps connection and unlimited traffic. Operating-system options include Debian, AlmaLinux, Ubuntu and Windows Server 2019, 2022 and 2025. CPU, memory and storage resources can be increased individually, while additional backup space, firewall protection, Windows licensing and managed administration are available separately.

The Physical Cloud Server range adds dedicated hardware and starts with configurations based on Intel Xeon processors, 16 GB RAM, 2 TB storage, one public IP address and unlimited traffic. Additional memory, backup storage, managed administration and firewall services can be added when required.

Colocation is another important part of the business. Customers can place individual 1U servers in the Lausanne facility with power, UPS protection, a fixed IP address, unlimited traffic, 1 Gbps network access, connectivity monitoring and physical datacenter access. Private rack capacity is also available, ranging from smaller 12U allocations to complete 40U racks with dedicated power allocations.

SwissCenter also provides Online Storage in capacities ranging from 100 GB to 10 TB, with access through SMB, AFP, NFS, FTPS, SFTP and rsync. Its Disaster Recovery Plan replicates customer infrastructure between two datacenters in Lausanne and is intended to bring replicated infrastructure online within minutes following a major incident.

Hosted Exchange remains available for customers needing centrally managed business email, shared calendars, contacts and collaboration features. The higher Exchange package adds larger mailboxes, public folders, additional domain aliases and resource mailboxes.

Service information is available in French and English, while prices can be displayed in CHF, EUR and USD. Contractual charges remain primarily denominated in Swiss francs. The current service range is technically maintained, including recent PHP versions, although the visual presentation retains an older-generation design compared with newer hosting storefronts. Several legacy information sections also remain online, including older material connected with the historical transfer of .CH domains from SWITCH.
