Shellit.org is a Finnish web hosting and internet-services provider operated by Multim Oy, with roots dating back to 2007. Hosting production was moved to Finland in 2010, the business became part of Multim Oy in 2011, and its servers were transferred from Espoo to Ulvila, Finland in 2013. The company has remained independently Finnish rather than becoming part of a large international hosting group. Jani Rajala is one of the founders and serves as CEO, while the company has grown to a team of around 10 people.

Multim expanded its technical operations through several acquisitions. At the beginning of 2019, it acquired the business operations of Lumihosting, which specialized in server and managed infrastructure solutions. That activity continued through the Lumicco brand, with the former owners remaining minority shareholders. Later in 2019, Multim acquired a majority holding in Admin Labs Oy, a Finnish monitoring and status-page specialist. The monitoring technology fits naturally into Shellit's infrastructure operation, where availability and automated supervision are important parts of the service.

Shellit's current portfolio focuses primarily on Shared Hosting, Managed WordPress Hosting, Domains, Email, Microsoft 365, Google Workspace and Reseller Hosting. The company has also operated virtual-server infrastructure through its Tavu Cloud platform, launched in 2017, and virtual servers remain part of its service infrastructure. However, the main Shellit sales offering is now much more concentrated on conventional website hosting, WordPress and business communication services.

The standard Web Hosting range consists of Bronze, Gold, Diamond and Super plans. All use LiteSpeed and provide the normal PHP/MySQL hosting environment, WordPress compatibility and free SSL certificates. The plans differ significantly in resources and administration features rather than simply offering progressively larger disk quotas.

Bronze is designed for small websites and includes 1 GB of disk space, one database, one mailbox and a recommended monthly traffic level of 5 GB. Daily backups, SSH and Crontab are not included at this level. Gold increases storage to 5 GB, provides five mailboxes and raises the recommended monthly traffic level to 100 GB. Daily backups are included, while SSH can be added separately.

Diamond provides a much more capable environment with 25 GB storage, 10 databases, unlimited mailboxes, hosting for up to five websites, a recommended 1,500 GB of monthly traffic, advanced Halon spam filtering, LiteSpeed Cache, daily backups, SSH and Crontab. Super raises storage to 50 GB, increases available processing resources substantially and carries a recommended traffic level of 4,000 GB per month. The larger packages are suitable for WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, Magento and PrestaShop installations as well as conventional PHP applications.

The hosting platform includes HTTP/3, SSL, SFTP/FTP access, phpMyAdmin and the common PHP extensions needed by modern website applications. LiteSpeed server technology and LiteSpeed Cache provide a useful performance advantage for WordPress and other PHP-driven websites without requiring customers to build their own caching infrastructure.

Traffic figures function primarily as practical usage recommendations rather than restrictive transfer quotas that immediately suspend a website after an occasional traffic increase. This makes Diamond and Super particularly practical for business websites, content-heavy WordPress installations and smaller online stores.

WP Hosting is Shellit's more managed WordPress-oriented service. WP Basic includes 30 GB storage, a recommended 4,000 GB of monthly traffic, unlimited visitors and page views, WordPress preinstallation, automatic updates, WP-CLI, Git, a 2,048 MB memory limit and unlimited email accounts. It provides substantially more resources than basic shared hosting and suits business websites and ordinary WooCommerce stores.

Larger WordPress and e-commerce projects can use customized configurations with individually assigned storage and processing resources. These configurations can include controlled software updates, optimization work and additional scalability for sites that have outgrown a normal shared-hosting package.

WordPress migrations are also available. Customers ordering an eligible WordPress hosting service with a 12-month billing period can receive a free migration when the existing site can be transferred through the supported All-in-One WP Migration process. More complicated migrations and transfers associated with shorter billing periods can involve additional charges.

The domain-registration operation is extensive, with more than 490 domain extensions available. Shellit is an authorized .fi registrar, making it particularly useful for Finnish companies and organizations. .fi domains receive geographically distributed Anycast DNS in addition to the standard redundant DNS infrastructure. Normal authoritative name servers are distributed across three independent locations in two countries.

DNS management supports common record types including A, AAAA, CNAME, TXT, SRV and MX records together with forwarding functions. Domain customers can therefore use Shellit's DNS service independently without having to purchase a complete web-hosting package.

Email services are available in several forms. Shellit's own mailbox service can be attached to a domain, with customers creating and managing the required mailboxes through the control panel. Conventional hosting packages already include different levels of email capacity. More demanding installations can use Halon-based filtering and secure-mail functions for handling confidential communications.

For companies requiring complete office and collaboration environments, Shellit supplies Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace. Microsoft options range from Exchange-based email to Business Basic, Apps and Business Standard packages. Google Workspace is available in Business Starter, Standard and Plus configurations. Separate backup solutions are also available for Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace data, covering business email, cloud files and collaboration information.

The Reseller Hosting program is suitable for web designers, developers and agencies managing several customer accounts. Resellers can use volume discounts reaching 25%, an affiliate arrangement with commissions of up to 20%, or actual reseller hosting resources. The reseller hosting model begins with a resource allocation containing five databases and 25 GB of storage, which can then be divided between individual customer hosting accounts. Email resources are handled separately.

Localization is another important advantage for the domestic market. Finnish is the primary and most comprehensive language, while a functional English version is also available for international customers. A more limited Swedish section is available as well. Finnish remains the most complete version for products such as Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, email and reseller services. Product pricing is handled in EUR, with prices available either excluding VAT or including Finland's applicable 25.5% VAT.
