Sharetru is a U.S. Managed File Transfer (MFT), secure file-sharing, and compliance-focused SaaS provider with roots in the early commercial FTP hosting market. Founder Martin Horan began developing the original service in 1999, while FTP Today officially launched in 2001. The business gradually evolved from hosted FTP into a proprietary secure file-transfer platform and adopted the Sharetru brand in November 2022. The legal company remains FTP Today, Inc. dba Sharetru, a Nevada corporation. Martin Horan remains Founder and President, while Brendon Ainsworth serves as Chief Executive Officer.

Sharetru is no longer a traditional web host for websites, domains, cPanel accounts, VPS instances, or general-purpose dedicated servers. Its specialization is Managed File Transfer, Secure File Sharing, SFTP, FTPS, FTPeS, SCP connectivity, compliant cloud storage, automated file-transfer workflows, and dedicated single-tenant MFT environments. This makes the platform particularly suitable for organizations handling sensitive or regulated information in sectors such as aerospace, defense, government contracting, healthcare, financial services, manufacturing, and engineering.

The company's infrastructure and software have developed substantially over more than two decades. FTP Today moved its cloud infrastructure to custom dedicated servers in Silicon Valley in 2006, transitioned toward SaaS in 2008, and launched a proprietary private-cloud platform in 2010. A browser-based File Transfer Web App followed in 2014, secure guest links were introduced in 2016, and government-oriented infrastructure arrived in 2018. The GOVFTP environment later moved to DataBank's DFW3 facility in Plano, Texas in 2020. Sharetru Federal subsequently achieved FedRAMP Moderate authorization as an authorized SaaS service on May 2, 2025 within the MIS Sciences GovPoint Cloud Services authorization boundary.

The main service range is organized around Core and Complete subscriptions. Core begins with 10 GB storage and 10 users, with larger configurations offering 20 GB with 20 users and 30 GB with 30 users. It includes a dedicated IP address, browser-based file sharing, five custom access groups, three months of log retention, two-factor authentication, API access, automated retention, SMTP integration, SSO, SIEM integration, and native SFTP, SCP, FTPS, and FTPeS connectivity.

Complete targets larger environments. Storage starts at 100 GB with unlimited users and can scale through 200 GB, 300 GB, higher tiers up to 1 TB, and larger customized deployments. It includes unlimited custom access groups and six months of standard log retention, while also making dedicated single-tenant infrastructure available as an option. Unlimited users can be especially valuable for companies working with many customers, suppliers, contractors, departments, or automated system accounts.

Security is one of Sharetru's strongest areas. Both plans include AES-256 encryption at rest, FIPS 140-2 encryption modules at minimum, dedicated static IP addressing, rolling 30-day backups, malware detection, virus scanning during uploads, IDS/IPS protection, vulnerability scanning, suspicious-file quarantine, granular permissions, SSH key authentication, country-based geo-fencing, account lockout controls, administrative logging, file-activity logging, and a real-time activity dashboard.

Sharetru also includes unlimited monthly data transfer. Individual files are not subject to an arbitrary maximum file-size limit, so the practical restriction is the amount of storage remaining in the account. Each site can use up to a 1 Gbps connection at the gateway firewall, with internal Ethernet connectivity also operating at that speed. Shared environments use concurrent-connection limits to protect platform resources, while dedicated infrastructure removes the normal software-wide connection limit and can be expanded with additional compute resources when necessary.

Secure external sharing allows files and complete folders to be exchanged without requiring every recipient to become a standard licensed user. Guest recipients do not consume a normal user license because they do not receive general account access. Sharing links can be controlled with expiration rules, geographical restrictions, retention policies, and View-Only access where content should not be freely downloaded.

Automation is another important part of the service. API access supports automated user and folder management, while retention and purge rules, scheduled user suspensions, activity notifications, administrative logs, file-transfer logs, and SIEM integration help organizations manage recurring B2B workflows. Existing software using standard SFTP or FTPS can also connect without requiring a proprietary transfer protocol.

Branding options include company logos, custom colors, customized login messages, custom domains, custom SSL certificates, and SMTP integration so automated communication can use the customer's own identity. Single Sign-On is available through SAML-based identity-provider integration.

The HIPAA Support Package extends the platform with a Sharetru BAA, 72-month log retention, disaster-recovery functionality, and additional security controls. The Sharetru Federal Package places the service inside a FedRAMP Moderate authorized environment and adds FIPS 140-3 encryption modules, extended auditing, stricter failed-login controls, watermarking, and protections intended for CUI, CDI, FCI, ITAR, and CMMC Level 2 workloads.

Sharetru Federal operates inside the MIS Sciences Corporation GovPoint Cloud Services FedRAMP Moderate JAB P-ATO boundary. The authorization encompasses IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS layers and is associated with FedRAMP Package ID F1311222650, giving government and defense-related customers a stronger compliance foundation than simply running software on infrastructure with a separate FedRAMP authorization.

Sharetru operates primarily in English and bills services exclusively in U.S. dollars (USD).
