📄 Editorial Review

Register.TO is a Canadian-operated domain registrar and hosting provider centered on the .TO country-code domain of Tonga. The service is operated by Exclusive Technologies Inc., with the Register.TO name in use in Canada since 2012. Although .TO is Tonga's country-code extension, registrations are open internationally without a local-presence requirement, making it practical for businesses, developers, domain investors and customers looking for short or memorable domain names.

Domain registration is the main activity. Customers can search and register regular .TO names, perform bulk searches of up to 50 domains, transfer existing .TO domains, use WHOIS tools and monitor DNS propagation. The service also covers domain backorders, expiring and recently dropped names, auctions when several customers compete for the same backordered domain, and a secondary-market system for valuable .TO names.

IDN and Emoji .TO domains are supported as well. Unicode domains can use accented characters, Cyrillic, Greek, Chinese, Arabic and other writing systems through Punycode, while Emoji registrations have been supported since 2017. Internationalized and Emoji names do not carry a separate surcharge simply because they contain Unicode characters. The website interface itself is primarily English.

Every .TO domain includes free WHOIS privacy, unlimited domain forwarding, unlimited email forwarding and an Advanced DNS Manager. The accompanying Premium Anycast DNS service operates through 23 global points of presence and supports ALIAS, ANAME and APEX functionality together with zone imports, reusable DNS templates and DDoS protection. Two-factor authentication and on-demand transfer-key generation add useful security for domain-management accounts.

A free Sectigo/Comodo DV SSL certificate is available automatically through AutoSSL when a domain uses Register.TO's own parking or hosting environment. This works well for HTTPS forwarding and websites hosted directly with Register.TO, although the complimentary certificate is tied to that environment rather than intended for installation with an unrelated hosting company.

Register.TO also offers conventional shared web hosting for .TO domains and other domain extensions. Starter Web Hosting handles one domain and includes unlimited bandwidth and disk quota, unlimited FTP accounts and subdomains, 10 email accounts and one MySQL database. Pro Web Hosting increases the allowance to three hosted domains, unlimited email accounts and three MySQL databases. Ultimate Web Hosting supports unlimited domains, unlimited email accounts and unlimited MySQL databases. A separate Email Only Web Hosting package provides 10 GB of storage and five mailboxes for one domain.

The shared hosting platform includes free SSL, Premium Anycast DNS, cPanel, Softaculous and email delivery through SendGrid. Softaculous provides more than 400 one-click applications, including WordPress, Joomla and Drupal. Hosting infrastructure runs on SoftLayer / IBM Cloud, making these plans conventional shared-hosting services rather than VPS, dedicated-server or infrastructure-cloud products.

The unlimited hosting resources remain subject to fair-use controls. An account cannot consume more than 5% of overall system resources for longer than 60 seconds. Starter, Pro and Ultimate accounts have approximate inode limits of 100,000, 200,000 and 300,000 respectively. Individual databases are limited to 1 GB and 30 simultaneous connections, while database activity is expected to remain below 5,000 queries per hour. Cron jobs cannot run more frequently than every 10 minutes and each account can use no more than five cron jobs. Shell access is disabled by default but can be requested through support.

Email hosting also operates within defined limits. Shared-hosting accounts can send up to 200 outgoing messages per hour, mailing lists are limited to 500 recipients and individual mailboxes are limited to 2 GB under the hosting terms. Attachments larger than 20 MB are prohibited. These limits make the service more appropriate for regular website and business email than for large-scale mailing campaigns.

Server-level backups are maintained, but customer-created backups remain important. Accounts exceeding 10 GB of total data may not receive consistent automatic backups, and individual files larger than 1 GB are excluded from regular backup jobs. Customers can also generate their own backups, with server-generated backup activity restricted to the off-peak period between midnight and 5 AM EST.

Paid SSL Certificates cover Domain Validation, Organization Validation, Extended Validation and Wildcard certificates. The portfolio includes RapidSSL, GeoTrust and DigiCert products, ranging from basic DV certificates to business validation, EV and wildcard protection for multiple subdomains.

Register.TO also has services aimed at domain professionals. The reseller program supports API-based .TO registrations after approval and is intended for registrars, hosting companies and businesses handling domains in volume. Its affiliate program pays a 15% commission and uses a 30-day referral cookie. Together with domain backorders, auctions and aftermarket functionality, these services make Register.TO particularly useful to customers actively trading or managing multiple .TO names.
