Register.ca is a long-established Canadian domain registrar and web-services provider based in Toronto, Ontario. The company has operated in the Canadian domain market since 2000, becoming one of the early registrars certified for .CA registrations and later receiving ICANN accreditation in 2005. Register.ca Inc. operates as a privately held Canadian company incorporated in Ontario and uses IANA Registrar ID 1375.

The service range extends well beyond domain registration. Register.ca combines domain management, Linux cloud hosting, managed WordPress, Premium Email, website building, DNS management, Whois privacy, domain forwarding and professional web-development services under the same customer account. Domain services remain at the center of the business, particularly for Canadian customers managing .CA names.

Domain registration covers .CA alongside common international extensions such as .COM, .NET, .ORG, .INFO and .BIZ, plus numerous newer generic, geographic and specialized extensions. Registrations can generally be purchased for periods between one and ten years where registry rules permit. Customers can also handle registrar transfers, renewals, registrant changes, TBR expired .CA domains, IDNs and municipal or conflicting .CA registrations.

Portfolio-management features are relatively strong. The Bulk Manager supports bulk registrations, transfers, renewals, DNS changes, domain locking, Whois privacy settings, auto-renewal settings and contact updates. This makes Register.ca practical for businesses and domain owners managing more than a few names rather than operating each domain separately.

Whois Privacy is included without an additional charge where registry policy permits it. Individual .CA registrants also benefit from CIRA privacy rules, while organizational registrations can have different disclosure requirements. Every domain account also includes access to the Advanced DNS Manager, forwarding functions and email forwarding. Domains can use Register.ca nameservers or be delegated to external DNS providers.

The Cloud Hosting range consists of Cloud Lite, Cloud Pro and Cloud Business. These Linux/PHP hosting packages combine SSD cloud storage, email, SSL, daily backups, database support and managed WordPress functionality with automatic resource scaling.

Cloud Lite provides 1.5 GB storage, 20 GB monthly traffic, two databases, two FTP accounts and one 25 GB mailbox. Cloud Pro increases this to 3 GB storage, 30 GB traffic, five databases, five FTP accounts and three mailboxes. Cloud Business includes 5 GB storage, 50 GB traffic, ten databases, ten FTP accounts and five mailboxes. Both MySQL and PostgreSQL databases are supported.

The storage allocations are relatively conservative compared with mass-market shared-hosting packages, but the limits are clearly defined rather than hidden behind unlimited-resource terminology. These plans are best suited to company websites, WordPress installations and conventional business projects rather than large file repositories.

Managed WordPress provides a much broader toolkit than a basic installer. The service includes automatic WordPress installation, core and plugin updates, theme management, update rollback, daily backups, one-click restoration, server-side caching, plugin caching, Memcached object caching and staging environments.

Security features include malware scanning, firewall controls, IP filtering, account isolation and automated SSL provisioning and renewal. PHP versions can be managed from the hosting environment, while multiple WordPress installations can be administered from the same account. The platform also includes tools that assist with initial setup, themes, plugins and site configuration.

The WordPress and Cloud Hosting infrastructure runs on Google Cloud, giving the hosting platform access to scalable cloud resources and fault-tolerant infrastructure. Automatic processing-resource scaling helps accommodate temporary traffic increases without requiring customers to manually change servers.

Register.ca also provides IDEA SiteBuilder for customers who do not want to build a website through WordPress. The service includes responsive templates, drag-and-drop editing, forms, media widgets and SSL support. Paid packages can also include Premium Email accounts. Domain customers have access to a limited free three-page SiteBuilder option.

Businesses requiring more customized development can purchase professional web services covering website construction, custom themes, forms, scripts, databases, graphic work, membership functions and e-commerce development. These services are handled separately from the standard self-service hosting plans and are priced according to the project.

Premium Email provides 25 GB per mailbox and supports browser-based webmail as well as conventional IMAP, POP3 and SMTP clients. Features include SSL-encrypted connections, DKIM, two-factor authentication for webmail, anti-spam and anti-virus filtering, aliases, forwarding, autoresponders, calendars and shared contacts. Individual messages can include attachments of up to 50 MB.

Nightly Premium Email backups provide recovery and rollback capability for up to 14 days. The same Premium Email system is bundled with the Cloud Hosting plans, allowing domains, websites and business mailboxes to remain under the same provider.

Register.ca is strongly oriented toward the Canadian market. Prices are charged in Canadian dollars (CAD) and Canadian GST/HST is added where applicable. Their service terms also establish a Canadian connection requirement for customers purchasing services.

The company website retains a relatively traditional portal-style design compared with newer registrar and SaaS interfaces. The underlying hosting products have nevertheless evolved considerably, particularly through the use of cloud infrastructure, managed WordPress features and integrated security and backup functions.

Register.ca does not operate a conventional standalone VPS or dedicated-server product range. Its hosting business is concentrated on managed cloud hosting, WordPress, email and website services rather than infrastructure-level server rental.
