📜 Plan description

From single servers to full racks, house your already-owned infrastructure in our data centre and enjoy the same security, accreditations, data centre reliability and connectivity as our bare metal cloud solutions – with the ability to provision additional infrastructure on-demand from our range of hardware offerings.

Industry leading infrastructure, N+1 design, 24x7 staffing. All of our fully-owned and operated UK data centres meet ISO90001, ISO 27001 and ISO 20000 standards and have the levels of resilience and redundancy you would expect from an organisation responsible for over 30,000 physical appliances.

All colocation customers receive access to our industry-leading, wholly owned fibre network as well as our tier 1 transit and peering partners, including the ability to add additional infrastructure on demand.

📄 Editorial Review

Redstation was a British infrastructure provider founded in 1998 by Lance Taylor. Based in Gosport, Hampshire, it belonged to the earlier generation of UK hosting companies that developed physical infrastructure, network capacity and server-management technology before public cloud platforms became the standard choice for enterprise deployments. Peter Appleton joined Taylor as a business partner in 2008.

The company focused on bare-metal cloud, dedicated servers, GPU servers, managed infrastructure, colocation, IP transit, private networking and hybrid hosting environments. Its services were designed primarily for companies running demanding applications rather than individuals looking for entry-level shared hosting.

Typical customers included businesses working in eCommerce, online gaming, financial technology, analytics, streaming, scientific research, IoT and big-data processing. These workloads benefited from physical server resources that were not shared with other tenants and could be configured around specific performance, storage and networking requirements.

Dedicated servers were available with customized processors, memory, SSD or hard-disk storage, hardware RAID, IP allocations, operating systems and management levels. Linux distributions, Windows Server, VMware ESXi and FreeNAS were among the available software environments, while custom operating-system installations could be arranged for more specialized deployments.

Redstation’s bare-metal platform combined physical servers with automated provisioning and software-defined networking. The company had been developing network automation since the mid-2000s, allowing customers to deploy, reinstall and modify servers without losing the consistent performance associated with dedicated hardware.

GPU servers expanded the service range for machine learning, rendering, simulations, scientific computing and other parallel-processing applications. Colocation customers could place their own equipment inside Redstation facilities while using the company’s power, cooling, network connectivity and on-site engineering services.

Redstation was acquired by iomart Group on 5 September 2013. The initial transaction value was £6.6 million, with additional consideration capable of increasing the total to approximately £8 million. At the time of the acquisition, Redstation had around 3,000 customers, employed 33 people and generated annual revenue of approximately £5.2 million.

Following the acquisition, Redstation operated alongside RapidSwitch, iomart’s other dedicated-server and bare-metal infrastructure brand. The separate Redstation identity gradually became less important as products, infrastructure and customer operations were consolidated.

The Redstation legal company became dormant and was formally dissolved on 30 April 2024. The remaining hosting operation was subsequently integrated into RapidSwitch, and the redstation.com domain now redirects to the RapidSwitch website.
