NodeChef – Developer-Centric Cloud Hosting Built for Performance and Control
NodeChef provides high-availability, container-based cloud hosting designed for developers who need simplicity, flexibility, and power. Their platform is optimized for building modern applications with minimal overhead—offering a full suite of features backed by a solid architecture and real-time performance monitoring.

Their App Hosting plans start with 128 MB of memory and one containerized app instance, ideal for lightweight applications. This base setup includes 100 MB of MongoDB database memory, 1 GB of storage, and unmetered bandwidth, with optional Redis caching and vertical scaling available.

Core Infrastructure Features
NodeChef’s infrastructure is built on bare-metal SSD servers, monitored 24/7, and supports:
99.9% Uptime SLA with automatic failover and rolling deployments
Elastic load balancing with rule-based auto-scaling and health checks
Multi-domain SSL (Let’s Encrypt) provided free of charge
GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket integration for seamless CI/CD workflows
Dockerfile and Buildpack deployments
IPv6 and WebSocket support
Real-time app metrics (CPU, RAM, latency, connections)
Automatic email alerts on container state changes

Developers benefit from zero-downtime vertical scaling, instant 1-click deployments, and full application and HTTP log access. The platform is especially well-suited for dynamic, scaling apps thanks to intelligent resource management and team collaboration tools.

Dedicated Databases with High Availability
For data-intensive projects, NodeChef offers high-performance database hosting that runs on dedicated containers with SSD storage and up to 8 CPUs. Their database service includes:

Replication and auto-failover
Root access with support for staging and development databases
Continuous backups with point-in-time restore
Slow query analysis, index suggestions, and automated indexing (MongoDB)
Secure data migration with zero downtime
Forking and cloning databases and collections
Storage across three continents for added durability

Databases come with SSL support, IP whitelisting, and authentication enabled by default. Snapshot archives can be stored in a personal S3 bucket, giving users full control over backup storage.

Monitoring and Performance Insight
NodeChef provides real-time metrics for app containers and databases, including specialized tracking for Meteor.js performance, allowing developers to trace publications and methods instantly. Monitoring packages include:

Solo: 1 host, 3-day data retention – $10/month
Standard: Unlimited hosts, 7-day retention – $50/month
Business: Unlimited hosts, 30-day retention – $100/month

Global Support Options
Support tiers are designed to accommodate a range of needs:
Standard (Free): Business-hour support, 1+ day response, forum access
Developer ($300/month): 24x7 support, 4-hour SLA, phone support, 5 cases/month
Enterprise ($1000/month): 24x7 priority support, 1-hour SLA, unlimited support cases

All plans offer access to architectural reviews and emergency contact where required.

Billing and Account Management
NodeChef uses a prepaid credit system. When a developer provisions their first container, their card is charged an amount equal to the projected monthly cost, which becomes credit on the account. Containers are billed hourly, and new containers or scaling actions adjust the credit balance dynamically.

Stopped containers continue to incur charges unless manually destroyed.
No refunds are provided under standard policy, though users can submit tickets in special cases.
Payments are accepted via credit card and PayPal, with payment required before provisioning.

Built for Serious Builders
With infrastructure spanning data centers in US East and Central Canada, and backed by a track record of reliability, NodeChef provides a scalable, developer-first environment that removes the complexity from app deployment and database management.

Whether deploying a lightweight web app or managing complex microservices with continuous scaling and real-time analytics, NodeChef is tailored to developers who value performance, precision, and operational control.

📄 Editorial Review

NodeChef is a Canadian managed cloud platform established in 2016, with operations associated with Halifax, Nova Scotia, and Toronto, Ontario. Andrew Bortey is one of the company’s co-founders. The business remains relatively compact, with a team size generally associated with the 2–10 employee range.

NodeChef is not a conventional shared hosting provider. Its platform is intended for developers, SaaS companies, startups, agencies, and technical teams that need application hosting, managed databases, Docker deployment, monitoring, backups, scaling, and cloud infrastructure management without maintaining a complete DevOps environment internally.

The service combines platform as a service, database as a service, Docker orchestration, application monitoring, automated deployment, scheduled jobs, object storage, backups, load balancing, and multi-cloud infrastructure management. Customers can deploy workloads on NodeChef’s bare-metal platform or connect compatible servers from other cloud providers.

The application platform supports Node.js, Python, PHP, Ruby, Java and other JVM applications, Go, Elixir and Phoenix, .NET Core, Meteor, and custom applications packaged inside Docker containers. Framework support extends to technologies such as Rails, Spring Boot, Play Framework, Groovy, Ratpack, Apache, nginx, PHP-FPM, and Parse Server.

Applications can be deployed from Git repositories, through the NodeChef command-line utility, from ZIP or TAR archives, or directly through a Dockerfile. Each application operates inside isolated Docker containers with selectable memory, CPU resources, multiple instances, health checks, automatic restarts, rolling deployments, and horizontal or vertical scaling.

Automatic scaling can respond to CPU consumption, memory use, HTTP connection volume, response latency, and other application metrics. Additional containers can be started during higher traffic periods, while elastic load balancing routes requests only toward healthy application instances. Rolling deployments allow production applications to be updated while existing containers continue handling traffic.

The monitoring system covers container status, processor and memory use, request volume, response time, connection latency, application logs, and load-balancer activity. Email alerts can report resource thresholds and container-state changes. The platform also supports wildcard domains, WebSockets, custom routing rules, IPv6, and free multi-domain Let’s Encrypt certificates.

Docker Hosting allows customers to deploy applications through their own Dockerfiles while NodeChef manages container building, deployment, replacement, monitoring, and scaling. The same orchestration system can operate on NodeChef infrastructure or on compatible private and public cloud servers.

Background Jobs provide isolated containers for scheduled scripts, workers, queue processors, data imports, maintenance routines, and other periodic tasks. Jobs can be created in any supported language, scheduled from the dashboard, executed concurrently, and monitored through separate logs and resource statistics.

Parse Server Hosting combines managed Parse Server instances with MongoDB, Cloud Code, scheduled jobs, push notifications, SDK compatibility, custom domains, SSL certificates, and Parse Dashboard access. Customers can use a NodeChef-managed MongoDB database or connect an external database.

The managed database range includes MongoDB Hosting, PostgreSQL Hosting, MySQL Hosting, and Redis Hosting. Database instances receive reserved memory, CPU capacity, disk I/O, and local SSD storage instead of competing inside an ordinary shared hosting account.

MongoDB configurations support individual servers and replica sets, WiredTiger and RocksDB storage engines, indexing recommendations, slow-query analysis, continuous oplog backups, daily snapshots, point-in-time recovery, database cloning, and CSV or JSON imports.

PostgreSQL hosting includes replication, hot standby servers, automatic failover, WAL-based point-in-time recovery, SSL connections, IP restrictions, query monitoring, and database-level performance statistics.

MySQL hosting includes dedicated database containers, binary-log recovery, replication, root access, SSL, monitoring, slow-query analysis, backups, and high-availability configurations.

Redis hosting supports replication, persistence, authentication, SSL, IP whitelisting, automatic failover, backups, and memory upgrades without intentionally discarding the active cache.

The S3-compatible Object Storage product is intended for media files, archives, application objects, backups, and other unstructured data. It uses an S3-compatible interface and combines MongoDB with the RocksDB storage engine. Storage operations and data transfer are included rather than billed separately.

NodeChef can also serve as a managed DevOps layer for customer-owned infrastructure. Applications and databases can run across private servers, public clouds, or multi-cloud environments while retaining the same deployment tools, dashboard, monitoring, backup system, scaling controls, and database-management features.

The website is available in English, and product prices are displayed in US dollars. The interface remains functional on desktop and mobile devices, although several areas have received limited recent editorial maintenance. The newest visible blog activity dates from 2019, while the Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, and Data Processing Addendum carry older revision dates. Some commercial conditions, particularly the free-trial wording, should be confirmed before an important production deployment.
