NinerNet Communications is a veteran hosting provider founded in 1996, making it one of the older independent companies still operating in the web-hosting market. During its first two years the business used the name WOW! M@rketing and concentrated mainly on web design, with hosting offered alongside that activity. The NinerNet Communications name was adopted in 1998 as hosting became a more important part of the business. Craig Hartnett has had a long-standing role in the company's technical operations and customer communication.NinerNet has always operated more like a small, technically involved hosting company than a large automated hosting platform. Its customer base has extended across Africa, North America, Europe and Australia, with particularly strong connections to Canada and Zambia. The legal business name is NinerNet Communications Company.
Its broader service history includes Shared Web Hosting, Managed VPS, Dedicated Servers, WordPress Hosting, Domain Registration, DNS Hosting, Domain Parking, SSL Certificates, Database Hosting, Web Application Hosting, E-commerce Hosting, Online Backup, Reseller Hosting and technical consulting. The active business is now more focused. Following a serious mail-server failure that started on March 19, 2026, customer email hosting was permanently discontinued. NinerNet continues with web hosting, DNS hosting, domain registration and renewal, .ZM domain registration and renewal, and consulting.
This change is important because parts of the older service information still contain email-related features such as POP, IMAP, SMTP, webmail and included mailboxes. These no longer represent a service available to new customers. Anyone considering NinerNet today should therefore treat email as an external service that must be obtained from another provider.
The standard Web Hosting package is a straightforward shared-hosting service with 10 GB disk space, 50 GB monthly transfer and 10 MySQL databases. SSL support, PHP, Perl, SSI, CGI and mod_perl are available, together with phpMyAdmin for database administration. Hosting accounts also include FTP access, subdomains, password-protected directories, server logs, traffic statistics, backup management, DNS administration and a browser-based file manager.
WordPress Hosting operates within the regular hosting environment rather than as a heavily automated managed-WordPress platform. Customers have access to Virtualmin and can select the PHP version used by individual hosted domains. WordPress maintenance and server-side PHP management remained active during 2026.
The Managed VPS range has used SSD storage with configurations starting at 1 GB RAM and extending to 8 GB RAM in the standard plans. Storage allocations range from approximately 25 GB to 160 GB, while included monthly transfer ranges from 1 TB to 5 TB. Larger virtual servers can be configured according to individual requirements. VPS availability should be confirmed directly before ordering because the company's 2026 core-service continuation focuses primarily on web hosting, DNS, domain services and consulting.
Dedicated Servers have also been available on a custom basis. Unlike the VPS packages, there is no current standardized dedicated-server range with a complete selection of processors, RAM, storage and monthly prices. NinerNet has also handled installation and maintenance of common web applications including content-management systems, blogs, shopping carts, forums, wikis, galleries and newsletter applications. Managed website maintenance and technical consulting remain useful options for customers who prefer direct administrator assistance rather than handling server and application work themselves.
The website has an unmistakably old-school design and does not resemble a modern mobile-first hosting storefront. Some sections date from much earlier periods while pricing and operational information has continued receiving updates. The result is a mixture of current hosting information and legacy products that are no longer available. The service is primarily presented in English.
