📄 Editorial Review

Livedrive is a UK cloud backup, online storage, and file synchronization provider serving home users, small businesses, and resellers. The Livedrive service was founded in 2008 by Andrew Michael, who had previously founded Fasthosts. In February 2014, Livedrive was acquired by j2 Global, bringing its consumer backup and reseller operations into a much larger cloud-services group. The business is now part of Ziff Davis (ziffdavis.com) through J2 Global UK Limited.

The legal entity behind the service, Livedrive Internet Limited, company number 05435857, has an even longer corporate history. It was incorporated on April 26, 2005 under the name ETENDER LIMITED and changed to Livedrive Internet Limited in November 2006. The company's registered office moved in May 2026 to The Rowe, 60 Whitechapel High Street, London.

Livedrive is focused on cloud backup and storage rather than conventional web hosting. Shared hosting, VPS, dedicated servers, domain registration, and similar hosting products are not part of its portfolio. Its strength is instead the combination of automated computer backup, synchronized cloud storage, mobile access, business backup, and reseller services.

For individual customers, the main choices are Backup, Briefcase, and Pro Suite. Backup provides unlimited online backup space for a single PC or Mac. Files remain stored locally while additional copies are protected in the cloud, making the service suitable for recovery after hardware failure, accidental deletion, theft, or other data-loss situations. File versioning and restore functionality add another layer of protection when an older copy of a document is needed.

Briefcase serves a different purpose. It provides 2 TB of synchronized cloud storage that works more like an online drive. Files placed in Briefcase can be synchronized across computers, accessed through the web or mobile devices, and shared with other people. This makes it more appropriate for frequently used documents and media that need to remain available across several devices rather than files kept mainly for disaster recovery.

Pro Suite combines the two approaches. It includes unlimited backup for up to five computers together with 5 TB of synchronized Briefcase storage. NAS support and access through FTP, SFTP, and WebDAV make this the most flexible personal package. The combination is particularly useful for photographers, freelancers, home offices, and users with several computers who want both traditional backup and active cloud storage under a single account.

Business services extend the same concept to teams. Business Express is intended for smaller organizations and includes backup, synchronization, mobile access, centralized administration, and approximately 2 TB of shared storage for three users. Business Standard expands the environment to around ten users and 10 TB of storage. Additional users and capacity can be added as requirements grow.

The reseller program remains an important part of Livedrive's business model. IT companies and service providers can supply cloud backup services to their own customers while using Livedrive's underlying platform. This makes the service relevant not only to direct end users but also to managed service providers and other businesses wanting to add backup to their own portfolio.

Desktop software is available for Windows and macOS, while Android and iOS applications provide mobile access and mobile backup features. Android development continued into 2026, including improvements to performance and mobile backup functionality. The service is primarily English-language.
