The company started in 2013, founded by Mark Gavalda (now Founder & Chairman), and is run today by CEO Jon Penland. It operates as a fully distributed team with a few hundred staff members and a formal head office in West Hollywood, California. The whole platform revolves around two pillars: high-end Google Cloud infrastructure and a custom control panel, MyKinsta, which pulls everything together.

The core product is Managed WordPress Hosting. Instead of classic shared hosting accounts, every WordPress site runs in its own isolated Linux container with NGINX, PHP and MySQL bundled together. On standard plans, each live site container has access to 12 CPUs and 8 GB RAM, while staging environments get their own dedicated resources as well.
