📄 Editorial Review
Jolt is a long-established UK hosting provider operated by Host Lincoln Limited, a company incorporated on February 16, 2007. Its history is slightly more complicated than the incorporation date alone suggests. The business began as the UK operation of WebHostingBuzz, and in 2015 the UK team completed a management buyout that created Jolt as an independent, UK-focused hosting brand. Host Lincoln later became part of Freethought Group: Freethought Group Limited became the controlling entity on May 5, 2023, and now owns Host Lincoln Limited. Matthew Russell, one of Host Lincoln's original directors from 2007, remained a director until February 2026, while Kieran Jones is a current director. ([Jolt][1])Jolt remains a fairly traditional hosting company in the positive sense of the term. Instead of concentrating almost entirely on hyperscale public cloud, it covers the progression from inexpensive Shared Hosting through Business Hosting, Reseller Hosting, Cloud VPS, managed Dedicated Servers, Magento Hosting, Shopware Hosting, Domains and SSL Certificates. WordPress is supported throughout the shared-hosting environment rather than being restricted to a separate locked-down WordPress platform. The company also handles free migrations for hosting and server customers. ([Jolt][2])
The standard Web Hosting range currently consists of Sparkle, Bolt and Flash. Sparkle provides 10 GB SSD storage for two websites, Bolt increases this to 100 GB and up to 20 sites, while Flash removes the advertised website, storage and bandwidth limits. All three include unlimited mailboxes, free automatic SSL, malware protection, a firewall, migration assistance and regular backups. The platform uses cPanel together with LiteSpeed (litespeedtech.com), including caching and performance optimization. Current shared-hosting backups are taken several times per day, with 30-day retention, and security includes Imunify360 protection. Email hosting is part of these accounts with webmail, IMAP/SMTP, forwarders, autoresponders and spam filtering. ([Jolt][3])
Business Web Hosting provides a middle ground for companies that need additional resources but do not yet want a VPS. Business Basic starts with 100 GB storage and 1 TB bandwidth, while Corporate plans increase this to 250 GB or more. These plans include a domain, Let's Encrypt SSL, migration and higher resource allocations, while priority support and fewer customers per server are intended to improve performance for e-commerce and business applications. This is also a sensible option for OpenCart, WooCommerce, Magento and similar applications where ordinary shared hosting may become restrictive. ([Jolt][4])
Reseller Hosting is particularly complete. The range goes from Reseller 10 through Reseller 100, offering approximately 11 to 101 hosting accounts and 50 GB to 200 GB SSD storage, with unlimited bandwidth and email. Resellers receive cPanel/WHM, white-label operation, SSL and application installation facilities. WHMCS (whmcs.com) is also supported and is included with some packages, allowing an agency or hosting reseller to automate customer provisioning, invoicing and support. Softaculous (softaculous.com) provides one-click deployment of WordPress, Drupal, WooCommerce and numerous other applications. ([Jolt][5])
For customers needing root-level control, Cloud VPS Hosting ranges from small virtual machines with 1 GB RAM through much larger instances with up to 64 GB RAM, SSD storage, dedicated resource allocations, IPv4 and IPv6 connectivity and several terabytes of monthly transfer. The smaller V1G configuration can operate self-managed without a control panel, while larger plans can use managed service and cPanel/WHM. Supported Linux distributions include AlmaLinux, Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, Gentoo, openSUSE and CentOS. The cloud infrastructure uses Dell hardware, Intel Xeon processors, RAID10 SSD storage and 10 Gigabit networking. ([Jolt][6])
The newer server environment is increasingly centered around the proprietary Jolt Control Panel, also referred to as JCP and, in some support documentation, Scout. It provides a considerably more managed experience than a conventional bare VPS: websites and applications can be created from the browser, WordPress can be installed automatically, temporary domains and staging environments can be created, and credentials for databases, SFTP and SSH are handled through the interface. ([Jolt][7])
Dedicated Servers are one of Jolt's strongest products. Configurations currently range from a four-core Intel Xeon server with 8 GB RAM and 250 GB RAID-protected SSD storage through AMD EPYC systems with as many as 32 cores, 256 GB RAM and 3.84 TB SSD storage. Standard systems provide 1 Gbps connectivity, while the larger Enterprise and Ultimate configurations reach 10 Gbps. Custom hardware with additional RAM or storage can also be assembled. ([Jolt][8])
Unlike many inexpensive dedicated-server providers, these machines are managed by default through Jolt Control Panel. Daily off-site backups, malware protection, monitoring and application management are included rather than sold as several mandatory add-ons. Backups normally have seven days of off-site retention, while website-level snapshots provide another recovery mechanism. Enhanced management costs an additional £35/month and adds longer backup retention, stronger security and proactive human administration. Customers who prefer conventional software can choose cPanel or Plesk, although their commercial licenses cost extra. Windows Server is also available at additional cost. ([Jolt][8])
Jolt Control Panel also makes the dedicated platform particularly attractive for developers and agencies. It supports WordPress, WordPress Multisite, WordPress Bedrock, Magento, Node.js, Laravel and Git deployment, along with staging and cloning. Performance features include Redis, caching, compression, WebP optimization and Elasticsearch support. Security combines the panel's bot and rate-limiting controls with Monarx Protect, including malware detection and an under-attack mode for hostile traffic. ([Jolt][8])
Specialized Magento Cloud Hosting remains available for e-commerce stores. The three primary configurations start with 3 GB RAM, two CPU cores and 50 GB SSD for smaller catalogs, rising to 8 GB RAM, four cores and 200 GB SSD for stores handling roughly 10,000 SKUs and more than one million monthly visitors. They are fully managed, include an IP address, unmetered 100 Mbps connectivity, free SSL, daily off-site backups and Magento-specific server optimization. Jolt also handles Magento installation, migration, monitoring and DevOps work. ([Jolt][9])
A similar Shopware Cloud Hosting range is available, with Jolt operating as an approved Shopware partner. Shopware Level 1, 2 and 3 follow approximately the same £50/£100/£200 structure and resource progression as the Magento service. This gives agencies working with either of these heavier e-commerce platforms a more specialized alternative to ordinary shared hosting. ([Jolt][10])
Domain Registration is another active part of the business. Jolt is an accredited .UK registrar under the JOLT tag, and supports registrations, transfers and management of both UK and international extensions. Examples include .co.uk, .uk, .com, .net, .org and many newer generic TLDs. Customers can also transfer existing domains into the same account, while .UK transfers use the normal IPS-tag system. ([Jolt][11])
Free automatic SSL is already included with normal hosting, but separate SSL Certificates are available for customers who need a commercial certificate. The catalog includes Single-Domain DV, Multi-Domain DV and Wildcard DV certificates, with free reissues and certificate warranties. Jolt also supports certificate installation and reissuance through its customer area. ([Jolt][12])
The website is primarily English-language, which is appropriate for its UK focus. Billing defaults to GBP, but EUR and USD are also supported. Jolt is therefore usable for international customers even though it does not operate a large multilingual storefront. ([Jolt][13])
The company also takes environmental and operational certification more seriously than many small independent hosts. Hosting infrastructure uses renewable-energy contracts where possible, with carbon offsetting elsewhere, and Jolt considers the overall operation carbon negative through environmental projects. The business holds ISO 9001, ISO 27001 and Cyber Essentials certifications. ([Jolt][13])
