Hoststar is a long-established Swiss web hosting and infrastructure provider founded in 1996 by Claude Hofer. The Hoststar brand is operated by Multimedia Networks AG, headquartered in Fraubrunnen, Bern, Switzerland, with an additional operation in Irdning, Austria (hoststar.at). The business developed from Claude Hofer's original sole proprietorship into a hosting company serving around 80,000 customers with approximately 30 employees and an infrastructure footprint of more than 500 dedicated servers.

A major corporate change took place on January 28, 2022, when Multimedia Networks AG and Hoststar became part of Miss Group (missgroup.com). Hoststar continued operating under its established brand with its Swiss headquarters and local organization, while gaining the backing of a larger international hosting group.

The service range extends well beyond conventional shared hosting. It includes Linux Web Hosting, Windows Hosting, WordPress Hosting, Reseller Hosting, VPS, Managed Servers, Domain Registration, Email Hosting, SSL Certificates, Cloud Storage, Website Builder, E-Commerce Hosting, VPN, SEO services, malware protection, identity monitoring, backup-related services and website migration.

The Linux hosting range is built around StarMini, StarEntry, StarBiz and StarPlus. StarMini is the entry-level package and includes one domain, one email account with a 5 GB mailbox, unlimited traffic, a small Designer website and daily backups.

StarEntry provides 100 GB SSD hosting storage together with 100 GB of cloud storage, support for up to 10 websites, unlimited domains and databases, SFTP/WebFTP and SSH access, external MySQL connectivity and PHP configuration through My Panel. Its included Designer allocation provides 5 GB of website storage, up to 30 pages and five languages.

StarBiz increases the resources to 200 GB SSD hosting storage and 250 GB of cloud storage while supporting as many as 50 websites. The included Designer package provides 10 GB of storage, up to 75 pages and ten languages, while e-commerce functionality and PostFinance integration are also included.

StarPlus is the largest regular shared-hosting package, with 250 GB NVMe storage, 500 GB of cloud capacity and support for up to 150 websites. Its Designer environment includes 25 GB of storage with unlimited pages and languages. HoststarVPN and premium support are also included. The underlying Linux environment supports Apache 2, HTTP/2, PHP, Perl, MySQL, phpMyAdmin, cron jobs, mod_rewrite, SSH and SSL.

WordPress users also have dedicated Extendify WordPress Hosting. WordPress comes preinstalled and is combined with an AI-assisted website-building workflow and mobile optimization. Extendify Entry includes one WordPress website, 5 GB SSD storage, one MySQL database and one mailbox. Extendify Biz increases the storage to 10 GB and adds further AI-assisted functionality. PHP memory can reach 512 MB, traffic is unrestricted, HTTP/2 and SSH are included, and WooCommerce can be added for online sales.

The Designer Website Builder is also sold independently in Entry, Biz and Plus editions. E-commerce customers can choose between Designer's integrated shop tools, WooCommerce on Hoststar hosting or Magento Hosting. Windows Hosting remains a separate product family. WinEntry provides 50 GB SSD storage, support for 25 domains, 2 GB of MSSQL storage and five MSSQL databases. WinBiz increases this to 75 GB SSD storage, 50 domains and 5 GB of MSSQL capacity, while WinPlus provides 100 GB SSD, 75 domains and 10 GB of MSSQL storage. All packages include unrestricted traffic, HTTP/2, email accounts, external database access and management through My Panel together with Plesk.

The Reseller Hosting range is based on white-label Plesk and Hoststar's own reseller administration tools. Entry provides 150 GB SSD storage, 75 customer accounts and 100 domains. Biz includes 250 GB, 150 accounts and 250 domains, while Plus offers 350 GB, 300 accounts and 500 domains. Databases and traffic are unrestricted, and the packages include SSL, SSH, external database access, daily backups and white-label customer administration.

The Virtual Server range begins with VirtualEntry, which provides one 1 GHz vCPU, 2 GB RAM and 40 GB SSD storage. VirtualBiz includes two 2 GHz vCPUs, 4 GB RAM and 80 GB SSD, while VirtualPlus includes four 4 GHz vCPUs, 8 GB RAM and 160 GB SSD. Each vServer receives a 100 Mbit/s connection, unrestricted traffic, IPv4 and IPv6 connectivity, root or administrator access and support for up to seven snapshots. Debian and Ubuntu are available for Linux deployments, while Windows Server is available from VirtualBiz upward.

For customers requiring physical infrastructure with administration included, Managed Server is available as a customized dedicated-server service. CPU, RAM and storage are configured individually, and Windows, Linux and Unix environments can be supported. Hoststar handles operating-system and application updates, firewall management and continuous NOC monitoring. Managed servers use a 1 Gbit/s port with guaranteed 1 Gbit/s bandwidth, while backup requirements can be adapted to the individual deployment.

Domain Registration covers more than 400 extensions and includes DNS and nameserver administration through Domain Manager. Domain transfers are free, and the remaining registration period of a transferred domain continues after the move.

Hoststar also bundles Cloud Storage with hosting and website packages. Files use triple-redundant storage and can be shared with additional protections such as passwords and expiration dates.

The additional portfolio includes free Let's Encrypt certificates and commercial SSL Certificates, email hosting, SEO tools, SecureWeb malware and application protection, ID-Hero identity monitoring, Hoststar Safe and professional website migration.
