Hosting Nation, operated by Hosting Nation Data Inc., is a privately owned Canadian hosting company based in British Columbia. The business uses 2002 as its foundation year, while its broader hosting history extends back to 1999 and Hosting Nation Data Inc. became the more focused operating company in September 2008. Rick Lawrence is CEO and General Manager and has also been identified as the owner behind the business. Hosting Nation serves customers across 21 countries, manages roughly 2,700 hosting accounts and more than 4,000 registered domains.

The company expanded through acquisition as well as organic growth. On March 10, 2009, Hosting Nation acquired the U.S. hosting brands Hosting With Us and Domains With Us from WebCom Resources, adding an established American customer base. Those brands, together with hosting-nation.com and hosting-nation.ca, were later consolidated under hostingnation.ca when a unified billing platform was introduced in 2018.

Its current portfolio covers Shared Hosting, Reseller Hosting, Managed VPS / Cloud Servers, Managed WordPress, CMS Made Simple Hosting, Domain Registration and Transfers, SSL Certificates, Email Filtering and hosting services tailored to web agencies. Dedicated hosting also appears in the company's historical service portfolio, although the current product range is centered much more strongly on shared hosting, managed virtual servers and agency services.

Shared Web Hosting is the main entry-level service and combines SSD storage with CloudLinux, LiteSpeed or Apache, MySQL/MariaDB and selectable PHP versions. Python, Ruby and Node.js support make the platform more flexible than basic PHP-only shared hosting. Customers manage websites through cPanel, while Softaculous provides application installation for WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, PrestaShop, MediaWiki and many other applications.

The Hosting for Everyone package includes 5 GB storage, 50 GB bandwidth, two CPU cores, three additional websites, 50 email accounts, 50 databases and 50 concurrent connections. Hosting for Business increases storage to 10 GB and bandwidth to 200 GB while allowing ten additional websites and 80 email accounts. Larger shared configurations with 15 GB, 20 GB, 30 GB and 40 GB of storage are also available.

Shared hosting includes free migration, POP3/IMAP email, webmail, unlimited mail forwarders, AWStats, multiple PHP versions, free SSL certificates and daily JetBackup backups. The platform also integrates Cloudflare CDN functionality and uses MailChannels outbound filtering to reduce delivery problems caused by blacklisted mail-server IP addresses. JetBackup keeps ten daily backups together with a monthly snapshot on remote S3-compatible storage.

CloudLinux provides account isolation and controls CPU, memory, disk I/O and concurrent resource consumption. This is particularly useful in a shared environment because one heavily loaded account cannot consume unrestricted resources from neighboring customers.

Reseller Hosting uses cPanel together with WebHost Manager. Resellers can create individual cPanel accounts, define hosting packages and administer their customers independently. Current configurations provide 25 GB, 40 GB or 60 GB of SSD storage with allowances for 25, 40 or 60 customer accounts. Softaculous, JetBackup and malware scanning are included along with the normal email, database, FTP and PHP facilities.

Hosting Nation's Agency Program is more hands-off than a conventional reseller account. Hosting Nation can bill the agency's customers directly, handle hosting and domain renewals, provide technical support and share recurring hosting revenue with the agency. Agencies receive centralized account management while their clients can use Hosting Nation's support infrastructure directly. Eligibility information has historically varied between three and five hosted customers, so smaller agencies close to that threshold should confirm the current minimum before joining.

Managed VPS targets websites, business applications and development environments that need more resources than standard shared hosting. Current configurations range from 2 CPUs, 2 GB RAM and 60 GB storage up to 8 CPUs, 16 GB RAM and 320 GB storage. Hosting Nation manages the server environment, performs routine administration and maintains backups instead of leaving the customer with a completely unmanaged VPS.

The VPS service uses cPanel and supports LiteSpeed as an additional performance option. Ten daily JetBackup snapshots are retained. AlmaLinux and CloudLinux are available within the Linux hosting environment, although customers planning long-term deployments should confirm the exact operating-system release available for new provisioning. cPanel licensing is billed separately according to the required account level, so it needs to be included when comparing the effective monthly VPS price.

The VPS and cloud platform uses centralized storage rather than relying entirely on disks attached to a single physical node. Computing workloads run across hypervisors with SAN-based storage, making CPU and memory upgrades easier and allowing workloads to be moved between physical systems when required.

Managed WordPress is available separately from normal shared hosting. Current plans start with 25 GB SSD storage, 1 GB RAM and one CPU and extend to a 160 GB NVMe configuration with 8 GB RAM and four CPUs. Transfer allowances range from 1 TB to 5 TB, SSL is included, and the larger packages accommodate up to ten WordPress websites.

The WordPress range contains an unusual pricing relationship in which the 60 GB plan can cost more than the 80 GB configuration. Customers comparing those plans should therefore confirm the final recurring amount before ordering.

A specialized CMS Made Simple Hosting service combines hosting with application-level CMSMS maintenance. It includes migration assistance, regular CMS Made Simple updates, supported module updates, PHP updates, performance tuning and backup recovery. The main package provides 10 GB storage, 200 GB bandwidth, two CPU cores and 80 email accounts, with hosting available in Toronto or New York. Older CMS Made Simple installations that require substantial modernization can involve additional upgrade work.

Domain Registration and transfers are another established part of the business. Domain management includes DNS editing, URL forwarding, free mail forwarding and private nameservers for reseller branding. Domain privacy is available for eligible extensions and has been included free of charge on supported domains since 2023. Incoming transfers normally add another year to the registration term where registry rules permit it.

SSL coverage is broader than the normal free certificate included with hosting. Active domains on shared hosting receive an automatically renewing 90-day SSL certificate, while commercial certificates are available separately. The commercial range includes RapidSSL, GeoTrust, wildcard certificates and multi-domain options, with dozens of SSL products available for customers requiring specific validation levels or certificate types.

Email functionality is integrated closely with hosting accounts. Standard hosting includes POP3/IMAP mailboxes and webmail, while MailChannels provides outbound filtering. MailChannels Inbound Email Filtering can also be added on a per-domain basis and includes spam, virus and phishing filtering, DMARC/DKIM/SPF checks, RBL filtering, whitelists, blacklists, quarantine management and daily digest reporting. Email and DNS need to remain hosted with Hosting Nation for this add-on.

The service is primarily oriented toward an English-speaking customer base. Billing supports both USD and CAD, which is particularly convenient for Canadian customers while still accommodating international accounts.

Hosting Nation has been operating long enough for some legacy product information and older technical references to remain mixed with newer services. A few specifications and pricing relationships can therefore differ between product areas. For larger orders, especially managed VPS and agency arrangements, confirming the exact recurring price, operating-system release and license requirements before committing is sensible.
