📄 Editorial Review
HostingMetro.com is a long-running U.S.-based web hosting provider operating under Hosting Metro Inc., with roots going back to 1998. The company is connected to Seattle / Bellevue, Washington, and has the profile of an independent hosting business rather than a reseller-only brand. In 2010, the company was led by Tony Chu as CEO, while Matt McKinney also appears in company marketing and customer-facing communication.Their service range is wider than a simple shared-hosting offer. Hosting Metro covers Linux shared hosting, Windows ASP.NET hosting, reseller hosting, VPS hosting, dedicated servers, budget dedicated servers, SSL certificates, domain registration / transfers, application appliances, Microsoft hosted business services, and free website transfer assistance. The website is mainly available in English, and prices are displayed in USD.
The Linux shared hosting range includes HM Basic, HM Value, and HM SSL Pro. These plans are suitable for Apache/PHP-based websites and include features such as unlimited monthly traffic, email accounts, email forwards, autoresponders, MySQL 5, CGI-BIN, PHP/Python/Perl support, shopping carts, raw logs, web statistics, cPanel, Softaculous, and SSH2 access. The smallest plan includes 500 MB web space and one hosted domain, while the higher plans expand to unlimited web space and unlimited domains.
The Windows hosting line includes ASP.NET Basic, ASP.NET Standard, and ASP.NET SSL Pro. These packages are aimed at customers needing ASP, ASP.NET, MS SQL Server, MS Access databases, ODBC DSN management, ColdFusion MX 8.0, SSL support, raw logs, and Plesk. This gives Hosting Metro more flexibility than Linux-only providers, although the technology stack includes older platform references that should be verified before using the service for a modern Microsoft-based project.
Their VPS catalog is broader than expected for a provider of this size. They offer OpenVZ VPS, Xen VPS, Bare Metal VPS using Parallels Bare Metal, Hyper-V VPS, and preconfigured VPS appliances. OpenVZ works as the lower-cost Linux container option with Solus control panel access, root access, VPS power controls, backups, restore functions, and OS reinstall tools. Xen and Hyper-V are stronger choices for customers who need deeper isolation, more OS flexibility, and a more traditional virtual-server environment. The VPS appliance lineup includes ready-to-use services such as OpenVPN, Secondary DNS Name Server Hosting, cPanel DNS Hosting, cPanel Backup Hosting, and Hosted PBX.
Dedicated hosting is divided between regular dedicated servers and budget dedicated servers. Standard dedicated servers use Dell or SuperMicro hardware and include Windows or Linux options, root access, unmetered bandwidth, Intel Xeon processors, security patching, Tipping Point intrusion prevention, APC remote boot, server management tools, and a 99.9% network uptime guarantee. Budget dedicated servers are cheaper and include Celeron, Pentium, and Core i3 options, 10 MB/s unmetered ports, North American data center placement, 2 dedicated IP addresses, and optional upgrades such as additional IPs, backup storage, dedicated KVM, hardware firewall, Windows Server licenses, MS SQL licenses, cPanel/WHM, Softaculous, and Plesk.
Hosting Metro also has a notable industry background. In 2010, they selected PEER 1 Hosting’s Seattle data center as a Pacific Northwest colocation facility, partnered with CloudLinux, acquired Win Web Hosting to strengthen Windows hosting, and acquired Bizwala Hosting to expand dedicated server management and western U.S. hosting capacity. This history shows a provider that was especially active around Windows hosting, VPS, dedicated servers, and infrastructure expansion during that period.
The main caution is that parts of the catalog still contain legacy technology references. Examples include Windows 2008, ASP.NET v1/v2, ColdFusion MX 8.0, MySQL 5, PHP 5, FrontPage-related support, and older Microsoft BPOS / Exchange 2007 services. This does not automatically make the service unusable, but customers should confirm current server OS versions, PHP/MySQL versions, supported Microsoft technologies, control panel versions, and patching standards before ordering.

😃 This company is the end result of a few decades of ownership changes. I started out with them in early 2000 when they were called Ilon (Internet Labs of Nevada) and were HQ'd in Las Vegas. Then they changed to Bizwala, then HostingMetro. As of the last year or so I have been unable to get any response at all from their tech support system. The used to be fantastic at support - that's why we stayed with them so long. That, and the fact that our company's e-commerce system is so ingrained into their platform that we cannot afford to start over again with some other hosting service. I hope they don't go under. It's not looking good.
