hosting.de is a German web hosting, cloud infrastructure and domain services company headquartered in Aachen. The current company dates from 2006, when TwooIT GmbH was founded, while the technical background of the business reaches back to 1998 through earlier web hosting and domain activities. The hosting.de brand was adopted in 2016, giving the company a long operational history in the German hosting market.

The business was developed as part of Moving Internet Group by a team of four engineers. Oliver Dick, one of the founders, remains a managing director of hosting.de GmbH together with Lutz Berneke. A major corporate change followed in 2022, when Moving Internet Group, including hosting.de and the ICANN-accredited registrar http.net, became part of Namespace Group (namespace.com) through Namespace Holdings S.A. At that point the group was already managing more than 200,000 domains and generating around €2.8 million in annual revenue.

Expansion continued after the acquisition. hosting.de moved significant infrastructure into a higher-capacity data center environment during 2023, while international growth followed in 2025 through hosting.fr (hosting.fr) for the French market. The company now serves more than 30,000 customers, manages over 300,000 domains, operates around 2,000 servers, employs about 36 people, and uses three server locations in Germany.

The current portfolio covers Shared Web Hosting, WordPress Hosting, Joomla Hosting, Drupal Hosting, TYPO3 Hosting, Database Hosting, VPS / Cloud Servers, Managed Cloud Servers, eCommerce Servers, Agency Servers, Domains, DNS, SSL Certificates, E-mail Hosting, Managed Nextcloud and migration services. Agencies and professional customers also receive access to APIs, customer-management functions and automation tools.

Web Hosting is available in Compact, Medium and Large packages. The platform uses SSD storage and supports both nginx and Apache, while packages include a .de domain, e-mail accounts, MariaDB databases, phpMyAdmin, free Let's Encrypt SSL certificates, spam and virus filtering, and access to the hosting.de customer interface. WordPress, Joomla, Drupal and TYPO3 can be installed directly, and daily backup functionality is part of the hosting environment.

Specialized WordPress, Joomla, Drupal and TYPO3 Hosting use the same broader hosting platform while adding an easier application-oriented setup. This makes the shared platform suitable for everything from small company websites to larger CMS projects without requiring customers to maintain a VPS.

Database hosting is based on MariaDB, SSD storage and phpMyAdmin. External database access and customer-controlled restore functionality are available, while more demanding projects can use clustered database configurations.

The VPS / Cloud Server range provides virtual servers with KVM virtualization, SSD/NVMe storage, root access, SSH, IPv4 and IPv6, VNC access, rescue functions and operating-system reinstallation. Linux choices include Debian, Ubuntu, Rocky Linux and AlmaLinux. Resources can be expanded when a project requires additional CPU, memory or storage.

Customers that do not want to manage the complete software stack themselves can choose a Managed Cloud Server. These systems add software maintenance, monitoring, backups, managed e-mail, MariaDB, phpMyAdmin, Let's Encrypt SSL and configured nginx or Apache environments. Redis and Memcached are also available for applications that benefit from server-side caching.

The eCommerce Server range is designed for online shops and resource-intensive PHP applications. hosting.de provides configurations suitable for WooCommerce and Shopware, with increased I/O resources and caching possibilities. This is particularly useful for shops that need more predictable performance than normal shared hosting while still benefiting from managed server administration.

Agency Server is aimed at developers, agencies and resellers that need to operate many customer websites. The platform uses AdminBolt for web server, e-mail, database, DNS, SSL, security, backup and file administration. Root access remains available, while routine server administration can be completed through the graphical interface.

AdminBolt also includes REST API access, Git deployment, individual FTP/SFTP access for domains, a browser terminal, WAF functionality, malware protection and server monitoring. Agency Server packages do not impose a per-hosting-account panel license, allowing agencies to create multiple customer environments within the available server resources. cPanel migrations can also be handled as part of the migration process.

Domains remain an important part of the business. More than 800 domain extensions are available, together with domain transfers, portfolio management and reseller-oriented automation. The group's ICANN-accredited registrar background adds considerable experience for customers managing large numbers of domains rather than only one or two website names.

The DNS platform uses Anycast technology, API access, DNS templates and DNSSEC. DNS infrastructure is distributed across several European data centers, reducing dependency on one location and making the service suitable for customers who use hosting.de only for domains and DNS while running their applications elsewhere.

Free Let's Encrypt SSL certificates are available with hosting services and can be issued and renewed automatically. Commercial DV and OV certificates from Sectigo are also available for customers requiring alternative validation or organization-validated certificates.

E-mail Hosting can be purchased independently from web hosting. The service supports POP3, IMAP and SMTP over SSL, Roundcube webmail, autoresponders, catch-all addresses, mailing lists, spam filtering and virus protection. SPF, DKIM and DMARC support helps businesses maintain better control over mail authentication and deliverability.

Managed Nextcloud adds another significant product family. Home packages cover personal and small-team cloud storage, while Managed Nextcloud Business provides dedicated resources, daily backups, administration functions, collaboration features and options such as LDAP integration. A separate solution is also available for municipalities and public-sector organizations. The Nextcloud infrastructure remains in Germany, making it attractive to organizations that give high priority to German data residency.

Information security is backed by an ISO/IEC 27001-certified information security management system, covering internal security processes, risk management, employee training, audits and external certification.

German is the main language for the service and technical documentation. An English-language section is also available, while French customers are served separately through hosting.fr (hosting.fr). Product pricing is denominated primarily in EUR.
