Host.it is an established Italian hosting provider whose history goes back to 2002, when Marco Mangione founded Colt Engine S.r.l. in Turin. The business initially developed through the Dnshosting.it brand and later expanded its specialization in CMS hosting. In 2006, Joomlahost.it became part of the operation, strengthening its expertise around Joomla and managed web hosting.

An important corporate change followed in 2016, when Welcome Italia entered Colt Engine's share capital. On June 3, 2017, the Dnshosting.it and Joomlahost.it businesses were consolidated under the Host.it brand and Host S.p.A. corporate identity. Host.it currently operates within the Vianova group structure, with Vianova S.p.A. holding 51% and management controlling the remaining 49%. The company also has a participation in QboxMail.

Expansion continued in 2025 with the acquisition of Bhoost and Magentiamo, businesses created by Andrea Saccà and particularly focused on Magento, e-commerce performance and professional Magento training. This addition is relevant for merchants running more demanding online stores, since Host.it now combines conventional hosting expertise with a stronger specialization in Magento infrastructure and optimization.

Host.it is also active in domain registration and is accredited with ICANN, Registro.it and EURid. The standard Linux Shared Hosting range is organized around Agile, Smart and Genius packages. These accounts include web storage, MySQL databases, email accounts, SSL, HTTP/2 support, daily backup, domain management, DNS administration and application installation tools. The hosting environment can run general PHP/MySQL websites as well as WordPress, WooCommerce, Joomla, PrestaShop, Magento and Drupal projects.

Container-based resource management separates customer workloads and allows CPU and RAM allocations to be handled more predictably than on basic shared hosting platforms. Website and email migration from another provider is also available, which makes Host.it practical for customers moving established projects rather than starting from scratch.

The CMS-oriented hosting range uses the same general infrastructure while adapting the service toward WordPress, Joomla and PrestaShop. FastCache adds LiteSpeed-based caching and optimization functions, while security-related services include SSL, firewall protection, WAF functionality, DDoS mitigation, MailOUT filtering and geographically separated backups.

Host Bucket is aimed primarily at agencies, developers and hosting resellers. Rather than purchasing independent shared accounts for every customer, an agency receives a pool of CPU, RAM and storage resources and can divide them into individual hosting packages. The service starts with substantial SSD storage and includes daily off-site backup, firewall and WAF protection, application installation, staging functionality and white-label administration. Resources can be expanded as the agency's customer base grows.

Host Cloud sits between conventional shared hosting and a self-managed VPS. Each project runs inside a dedicated virtual environment with assigned CPU and RAM resources, while Host.it continues to handle the underlying platform. This makes it suitable for e-commerce websites, business applications, news sites and other projects that require more predictable resources but where the customer does not want to administer the complete operating system. SSH/SFTP access, staging, geographic replication, SSL, monitoring, backups and DirectAdmin administration are available.

The VPS portfolio is divided into VPS Basic and VPS Premium. Basic VPS uses OpenStack and KVM virtualization together with NVMe Gen4 storage. Linux distributions include Ubuntu, AlmaLinux, Debian and CentOS-family options, while Windows Server is also available on compatible configurations. An IPv4 address, DDoS protection, monthly billing and rapid provisioning are included.

VPS Basic uses a best-effort resource model and is better suited to development environments, smaller services and workloads where guaranteed computing resources are not essential. VPS Premium is designed for more demanding production use, with guaranteed CPU and RAM resources, redundant high-availability infrastructure, 1 Gbps connectivity and unlimited traffic. Premium VPS also carries a 99.9% uptime guarantee. Both VPS families have been included within the Italian ACN qualification framework.

For customers requiring complete physical hardware, Dedicated Servers are available from Host.it's Italian infrastructure. Systems can be deployed with Linux and can run without a hosting panel or with DirectAdmin or cPanel/WHM. Depending on the selected configuration, customers can add RAID, additional IP addresses, backup services and different management levels.

Dedicated hosting is available with Base, Managed and Managed Plus administration. This flexibility is useful because experienced system administrators can retain full control over their server, while businesses without internal Linux expertise can purchase additional management and maintenance.

The wider service portfolio includes Domains, Email, PEC, BIS Backup, Object Storage S3, MailOUT, MailWash, Cerbero WAF, FastCache, staging tools, CDN-related functionality, Host Conference and Host DEV. Host DEV is particularly useful as a development and testing environment rather than a production hosting package.
