HiWAAY Information Services is a long-established Alabama Internet service provider whose history dates back to 1995. Its origins are connected with an early Internet network developed around Huntsville television station WAAY-TV, making HiWAAY one of the older regional Internet brands still serving customers in the United States.

The business has passed through several ownership changes. HiWAAY’s assets were acquired by 1stPoint Communications in July 2018 after the company had been managed by Jason Mohprasit and Chris Campbell between 2010 and 2018. Viper Networks later acquired 1stPoint Communications and Endstream Communications effective November 1, 2024. The wider operating group now uses the 0Wire Communications (0wirecom.com) identity and remains part of Viper Networks (vipernetworks.com), while the HiWAAY brand continues serving customers in Alabama.

HiWAAY is much broader than a traditional web hosting provider. Its portfolio combines shared hosting, domain registration, managed DNS, hosted email, spam filtering, SSL certificates, fixed-wireless Internet, VoIP, conferencing, mobile service, cloud backup, remote technical support, and colocation. Legacy dial-up packages also remain available, an unusual option among Internet providers operating today.

The primary hosting product is Linux shared hosting, available through three annual-contract packages. The Basic plan costs $9.95 per month and includes 1 GB of storage, 30 GB of monthly transfer and 20 email accounts. Premium costs $17.95 per month and increases the allocation to 3 GB of storage, 60 GB of transfer and 120 email accounts. Enhanced costs $29.95 per month and includes 10 GB of storage, 100 GB of transfer and 200 email accounts.

These packages support PHP, Perl, MySQL databases, server-side includes, WordPress, Joomla, osCommerce, and mailing lists. Additional disk space, bandwidth, databases, mailing lists and mailboxes can be purchased separately. Customers remain responsible for uploading or migrating their content and ensuring that their software is compatible with the available hosting environment. The shared plans are not intended for PCI-compliant payment-card processing.

The resource limits are modest compared with most modern hosting platforms. Even the largest standard plan includes only 10 GB of storage, while many competing providers include larger NVMe allocations, automated backups, staging environments and more advanced WordPress management. HiWAAY hosting is consequently better suited to a small business website, local organization, personal project or existing customer than to a storage-intensive e-commerce platform or rapidly expanding application.

Independent email hosting is available without purchasing a complete web hosting plan. The service includes an @hiwaay.net address, POP, IMAP, webmail, SSL-protected connections and managed spam filtering. The standard service information refers to 750 MB of storage, while the current ordering platform includes a 2 GB Basic mailbox. Customers should confirm the applicable storage allocation before placing an order. Multiple-mailbox packages are also available.

The AnteSpam platform provides domain-wide spam and virus filtering with administrator controls, individual mailbox settings, allow and block lists, quarantine reports, adjustable filtering sensitivity, aliases and emergency mail queuing. Optional backup retention and security-awareness training can be added. This is one of HiWAAY’s more useful business services for organizations that operate their own email domain but prefer not to administer a separate filtering platform.

Domain registration is available for common extensions including .com, .net, .org, .us, .info, .biz, .co, .tv, and .xyz. Customers receive a separate domain-management portal for DNS records, renewals, transfers, forwarding, payment history and automatic-renewal settings. Managed DNS can also be purchased as a standalone service.

SSL certificate options include AlphaSSL and DomainSSL products. These domain-validated certificates support modern encryption, relatively quick issuance and certificate reissues. They remain useful for customers who want certificate assistance, although automated free certificates are now standard with many contemporary shared hosting providers.

Internet connectivity is delivered primarily through HiWAAY AIR, a fixed-wireless service for residential and business customers in supported Alabama coverage areas. Residential packages include private Wi-Fi, unrestricted data usage, optional static addressing and access to related communications services. Business AIR adds static IP addresses, stronger service commitments, private connectivity and symmetrical gigabit plans where the required infrastructure is available.

The communications portfolio includes residential and business Internet Telephony, with local and long-distance calling, E911, number portability, mobile-device access, virtual PBX capabilities, interactive voice response and optional VoIP equipment. HammerCall conferencing ranges from a free account for up to ten participants to commercial plans with longer meeting durations, encryption, breakout rooms, recordings and support for as many as 100 participants.

HiWAAY also provides mobile service, cloud backup, workstation support and remotely managed desktop services. Its publicly purchasable hosting catalog is centered on shared hosting and communications rather than a standardized VPS or dedicated-server range. Colocation, private networking and more advanced infrastructure requirements are handled as consultative business services.

The company retains the appearance and structure of an older regional provider. Some service documentation covers applications such as Outlook 2007 and Windows Live Mail, and parts of the legal documentation have not been revised for many years. The client store is considerably newer and supports a broad selection of interface languages.

English is the primary website language.
