GMO Cloud is one of Japan's longest-established business hosting and cloud brands, operated by GMO GlobalSign Holdings K.K. (gmogshd.com). The company was established in December 1993 as Aile and entered the hosting business in 1996, followed by dedicated-server services in 1999. A capital partnership with GMO Internet began in 2001, after which the business operated under several corporate names, including GMO Hosting & Technologies, GMO Hosting & Security and GMO Cloud. In September 2020 the listed company adopted the GMO GlobalSign Holdings K.K. name, while GMO Cloud remained its hosting and cloud infrastructure brand.

The operator is listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Prime Market under code 3788, with capital of JPY 916.9 million. At the end of 2025, the consolidated organization had 962 full-time employees and 30 part-time employees, supported by a distribution network of around 5,900 sales partners. Mitsuru Aoyama is President and CEO and has led the predecessor hosting business since 1997. GMO Internet Group remains the controlling corporate group, holding approximately 52% of voting rights. The company is also a registered Japanese telecommunications carrier under A-11-3204 and maintains ISO 27001 certification.

The service portfolio is considerably broader than conventional shared hosting, covering Shared Hosting, VPS, Dedicated Servers, Public Cloud, Domains, SSL Certificates, Website Builder, Email services, Managed Hosting and managed AWS/Google Cloud infrastructure. Several older platforms remain operational for existing clients even though new sales have moved toward newer services.

iCLUSTA+ Shared Hosting is the main traditional web hosting platform. Mini, Regular and Pro plans provide up to 300 GB, 500 GB and 750 GB of SSD capacity respectively, with unlimited email addresses, MySQL databases, WordPress support and free independent SSL certificates. The plans support up to 61, 91 and 121 independent domains. Regular and Pro also include a commercial Movable Type license.

The iCLUSTA+ architecture separates server functions across a clustered environment instead of depending on a single conventional shared server. This adds redundancy for websites, mail and other hosting components while keeping administration suitable for customers that do not want to manage an operating system. Remote backup, security services, migration assistance, website creation and additional managed functions are available around the core hosting packages.

Cloud VPS by GMO is intended for customers requiring greater control over their server environment. Current configurations range from 1 GB to 12 GB of RAM, 2 to 7 virtual CPU cores and 50 GB to 800 GB of storage. Linux choices include AlmaLinux, Rocky Linux, Debian and Ubuntu, while Windows Server is also supported. Customers receive their own virtual server environment without separate data-transfer charges, and initial setup is free.

The main public cloud platform is ALTUS Advance. It provides 122 compute combinations together with virtual machines, persistent storage volumes, snapshots, routers, security groups, load balancing, images, ISO installation, IPv4/IPv6 connectivity and high-availability functionality. Compute resources can be started and stopped as workloads change, while persistent storage remains available independently of the virtual machine lifecycle.

ALTUS Advance is also the successor for older GMO Cloud infrastructure products. ALTUS Basic and ALTUS Isolate stopped accepting new orders on June 22, 2026, while existing users can continue operating their environments and adding resources. The former GMO Cloud Private platform is likewise closed to new applications, with ALTUS Advance now serving as the primary cloud infrastructure platform for new deployments.

GMO Cloud Dedicated Server remains available for customers that require physical hardware. XD-4, XD-6, XD-8 and XD-16 configurations use Intel Xeon E3/E5-class processors with four to sixteen physical cores, 16 GB to 96 GB of RAM and RAID1 storage. SSD upgrades are available, together with several network options ranging from standard shared 100 Mbps connectivity to higher-priority bandwidth and shared 1 Gbps connectivity.

Dedicated customers can use remote power controls and serial-console access, reducing the need for manual intervention inside the facility. The platform is a mature bare-metal offering suited to established business workloads, although its fixed Xeon E3/E5 generation is oriented more toward proven enterprise hardware than current-generation high-density compute.

Traditional Housing / Colocation Hosting formed another important part of GMO Cloud's infrastructure business. Available formats historically included individual rack units, fractional racks and complete racks. New applications are now closed, while the infrastructure remains relevant to the company's long history in Japanese data-center services.

Managed cloud services are provided through CloudCREW, covering architecture, deployment, migration, assessment, monitoring, security and ongoing management for AWS and Google Cloud. This service is aimed at companies requiring engineering and operational assistance rather than unmanaged infrastructure. Both normal business-hours management and 24/365 operational plans are available.

The broader portfolio also includes domain registration, SSL certificates, website building, email security, backup, vulnerability protection and managed website operations. This makes GMO Cloud suitable for companies that want to combine conventional hosting with cloud infrastructure and managed operational services under the same corporate group.

The corporate organization supports both Japanese and English information, while the actual GMO Cloud purchasing and service environment remains primarily Japanese-language. Product pricing is in Japanese yen (JPY), and there is no general multi-currency hosting storefront. This orientation makes the service particularly suitable for Japanese businesses and organizations operating primarily in Japan.
