📜 Plan description
Hardware
-------------
Our OVZ Basic Edition was designed with one goal in mind: provide the best possible performance at fair costs.
To reach this goal all of our masternodes consists of wisely choosen and thoroughly tested components. As the power costs increased over the last years we choose very power efficent components. Therefore we only deploy Intel processors.
Software
------------
This edition is based on OpenVZ which gives you many advantages but is only able to run linux operation systems with a central managed kernel.
If you want to run a linux operation system and do not rely on a specific kernel version or module OpenVZ is the best virtualization for your needs and is way cheaper then KVM (Kernel-based Virtual Machine).
Additionally, OpenVZ allows unused ressources to be used by other VPS which provides a far better balancing between available and allocated ressources.
Overprovisioning
-----------------------
OpenVZ allows to overprovisioning masternode resources and this leads to one question: are you overprovisioning?
Most VPS Providers don't want to speak about overprovisioning but as part of our business philosophy we want to keep things as transparent as possible for our customers.
As almost every Hoster we are overprovisioning OpenVZ Masternode Resources.
But as the customer experience is our primary goal we closely monitor all parameters of our masternodes to ensure a proper operation and to make sure that no performance bottleneck impacts our customers vps.

📄 Editorial Review
First Root UG (haftungsbeschränkt) is a Germany-based hosting provider from Düsseldorf, active since April 2011. The company focuses on infrastructure hosting rather than simple beginner-only website packages, with services covering VPS, KVM virtual servers, OpenVZ virtual servers, Plesk web hosting, domains, dedicated servers, colocation, DNS management and SSL/TLS-related hosting services. The strongest part of First Root is its technical orientation. Since 2011, they have operated their own equipment and IP resources, with their NOC located close to the Düsseldorf data center. This gives the company a more infrastructure-focused profile than many small hosting resellers. Their services are especially relevant for developers, system administrators, agencies and businesses that want German-hosted VPS or colocation with direct control over the operating system, networking and backups.
Their VPS line is broad. The OpenVZ Basic plans are budget Linux containers for standard workloads and beginners, while OpenVZ Power increases CPU, RAM and SATA storage for heavier applications. OpenVZ Ultra moves to RAID-10 SSD storage and stronger dual-Xeon platforms, making it more appropriate for I/O-sensitive Linux services. OpenVZ remains Linux-only and does not provide the same kernel freedom as KVM, but it keeps prices low.
The KVM Power plans are more flexible because they allow independent kernel management, Windows Server, BSD systems and custom ISO usage through support. These plans use SSD storage and include IPv6 /64, with higher tiers adding BGP availability and private networking. KVM Ultra is the higher-performance NVMe line, using dedicated RAM and dedicated CPU resources for larger databases, data-processing workloads and more demanding applications.
Their Plesk Webhosting product is a classic shared hosting line with web space, traffic flat rate, email accounts, aliases, MySQL databases, Let’s Encrypt SSL and domain support. It is not the main technical strength of First Root, but it is useful for customers who prefer a managed hosting panel instead of maintaining their own VPS. Domain services are also available, with more than 400 TLDs, domain transfers, free DNS service and domain management through their control panel.
The dedicated server and colocation side makes First Root more interesting for technical customers. The D-Server Power product uses a configurable Intel Core i7 server base, while the Colocation Düsseldorf offer includes rack space, power, network options, IPv4/IPv6 and optional BGP session support. This combination is stronger than a simple "VPS-only" host and fits customers who may grow from virtual servers into physical servers or their own hardware.
The main website is available in English and German. The FAQ system includes a broader language selector, but the main commercial website is essentially English/German. Prices are in EUR, and the default prices include German VAT. The website design is functional and somewhat old-style, but the product tables and configurators are clear enough for technical buyers.
