EnCirca is a privately held American domain registrar and hosting-services company founded in 2001 by Thomas Barrett. The company is headquartered in Woburn, Massachusetts, and operates as an ICANN-accredited registrar under IANA registrar ID 455. Its business has always been more specialized than that of a typical mass-market hosting provider, with a particularly strong position in regulated domains, restricted namespaces, corporate domain portfolios and trademark protection.

The company works with conventional generic extensions, country-code domains and alternative blockchain-based naming systems. Its real advantage becomes clear when a registration requires eligibility documents, professional credentials, trademark verification or direct coordination with a registry. Extensions connected with banks, insurers, pharmacies, accountants, cooperatives, postal organizations and real-estate professionals often involve more administration than a normal .com registration, and this is where EnCirca has built much of its reputation.

Domain services include new registrations, renewals, inbound transfers, contact management, nameserver management, DNS records, DNSSEC, WHOIS privacy and registrar locking. Registration periods depend on the individual registry and can normally cover several years. Automatic renewal and stored payment methods are available, which is useful for companies that cannot afford to lose a regulated or brand-critical domain through an administrative oversight.

EnCirca is also well suited to organizations maintaining large domain portfolios. Its Domain Portfolio Management service combines ICANN domains, country-code extensions and blockchain names inside a broader administrative structure. Corporate services extend to brand protection, Sunrise applications, Trademark Clearinghouse submissions, restricted-domain validation, domain monitoring, TLD blocking, customized registration workflows, registry consulting and registrar consulting.

Its Web3 and blockchain-domain work is another distinctive part of the business. EnCirca supports alternative naming systems connected with technologies such as Ethereum Name Service and Handshake, while helping companies coordinate these names with their conventional domain portfolios. This can be useful for organizations experimenting with digital identity, wallets and decentralized services, although blockchain names do not always work like ordinary DNS domains. Browser support, resolver compatibility, email use and search-engine visibility can differ significantly between systems.

The hosting portfolio is smaller than the registrar business, but it covers the main services required to launch and maintain a business website. Shared Hosting includes website space, email, FTP access, cPanel management and a website builder. The builder offers more than 200 responsive templates, drag-and-drop editing, ecommerce components, media functions, social integrations, mobile previews and one-click publishing. AutoSSL and forced HTTPS can also be managed through the hosting account.

Secure VPS plans are intended for websites that need isolated resources, an individual IP address and a more tightly controlled configuration. EnCirca completed the migration of its hosted-email customers to the Open-Xchange platform in January 2026. OX App Suite works through webmail, desktop applications and mobile devices, with CalDAV and CardDAV available for calendar and contact synchronization. Its filtering system protects accounts against spam, malware, viruses and phishing attempts.

Shared email is intended for ordinary personal and business correspondence rather than bulk marketing. The environment is rate-limited to approximately 100 outgoing messages per hour. Customers running newsletters, promotions or large mailing lists should use a dedicated email-delivery platform instead of the shared server.

The wider security portfolio includes SecureDNS, SSL certificates, DMARC services, DNSSEC, secure forwarding, WHOIS privacy, account locking, passwordless login codes and multi-factor authentication. EnCirca also provides access to its SOC 2 audit report after acceptance of a nondisclosure agreement.

SSL options cover Domain Validation, Organization Validation, Extended Validation, wildcard and multi-domain certificates. DMARC and related email-authentication services help companies reduce spoofing and phishing by controlling which systems are authorized to send mail for their domains.

The account system requires a one-time code sent by email during login. Additional MFA can be configured through Google, Microsoft or Authy authenticators. Account teams allow several authorized employees or service providers to work with the same corporate portfolio without sharing one central password.

The customer and billing portal supports a wide selection of languages, including English, Arabic, Azerbaijani, Catalan, Chinese, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Estonian, Persian, French, German, Hebrew, Hungarian, Italian, Macedonian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish and Ukrainian. The main company website has a modern responsive layout, while the separate hosting and billing interface retains a more traditional account-management design. The system remains practical, but customers using domains, hosting, email and billing together must move between several specialized portals.
