EFECT is a Romanian IT infrastructure and hosting company based in Cluj-Napoca, with a history going back to October 24, 2002. The company was founded by Bogdan Ciotlăuș, who remains CEO. Its early activity centered on IT services for public schools and small and medium-sized businesses in Cluj, before expanding into data management, security, backup, disaster recovery and professional hosting infrastructure.

A major step came in 2012, when approximately RON 1 million in European funding supported the construction and equipment of its data center. Hosting subsequently became an important part of a much wider infrastructure business rather than the company's only activity. Today the portfolio covers shared hosting, VPS, dedicated infrastructure, colocation, private cloud, email hosting, domains, storage, backup, disaster recovery and managed security services.

EFECT operates its own data-center infrastructure in Cluj-Napoca, with hosting infrastructure dating from 2012 and earlier infrastructure operations going back to 2008. A second containerized facility became operational at Cluj Innovation Park in 2021, providing an additional location for secondary backups, hosting and colocation. This second site includes N+1 power and cooling redundancy together with connections through multiple Internet providers.

The conventional hosting range is quite complete. Linux shared hosting is available with Apache or LiteSpeed, SSD storage, defined CPU and memory allocations and cPanel administration. Windows shared hosting is also available for customers requiring ASP.NET, MSSQL and other Microsoft technologies. Email can be hosted separately through SmarterMail Enterprise or Microsoft Exchange, while virtual infrastructure is available through both VMware VPS and OpenStack VPS.

The Linux hosting range covers small websites through larger multi-domain installations and reseller environments. The entry SSD4 Apache plan includes 6 GB SSD storage, three add-on domains, 1 GB RAM, 100% CPU allocation, 30 entry processes, backups and a 99.99% SLA. Larger plans increase storage, RAM, CPU resources and domain allowances, while reseller packages provide multiple cPanel accounts.

Windows hosting remains an active part of the portfolio and combines SSD storage with FTP accounts, MySQL and MSSQL databases, backups and a 99.99% SLA. Linux customers work with cPanel/WHM, while Windows accounts use Plesk, making the platform suitable for businesses that still depend on Windows Server and Microsoft-based web applications.

Business email is another important component. SmarterMail hosting includes antivirus and antispam protection, webmail, IMAP/POP3 access and backups, with packages scaling according to mailbox count and storage. Exchange hosting provides 50 GB per user, webmail, antivirus and antispam filtering and backup, with a minimum order of five accounts. SmarterMail packages use a 99.9% SLA, while Exchange services have a 99.99% SLA.

The VPS offering targets business workloads more than the cheapest unmanaged-server market. VMware virtual servers use SSD SAN storage and unlimited traffic, while OpenStack provides a more flexible cloud model where compute resources, SSD storage, object storage, IP addresses, load balancing and outbound traffic can be configured separately. This gives customers a choice between traditional virtual infrastructure and a more granular cloud environment.

The wider infrastructure portfolio includes colocation, dedicated servers, Private Cloud, Storage as a Service, dedicated connectivity, Backup as a Service and Disaster Recovery as a Service. Dedicated servers are handled more as customized infrastructure deployments than a simple catalog of fixed low-cost configurations.

Colocation is available directly from the Cluj infrastructure and includes 24/7 Remote Hands. This makes EFECT suitable not only for customers purchasing virtual resources but also for organizations that need to place their own equipment in a professionally operated Romanian facility.

Backup services include Veeam (veeam.com) Cloud Connect for virtual-machine backup and storage, together with Microsoft 365 backup services. EFECT also provides managed security services such as EMSaaS, combining endpoint security, advanced threat protection, VPN/ZTNA, vulnerability scanning and anti-ransomware capabilities. FAZaaS provides FortiAnalyzer-based centralized log analysis with capacity selected according to daily log volume.

Fisiere.ro extends the portfolio into synchronized business file storage, sharing and versioning. The service supports unlimited users and has included a 10 GB test package available free for six months, followed by larger commercial storage packages.

Domain registration, transfer, renewal and DNS management are integrated into the same customer environment used for hosting and infrastructure services. Customers can therefore keep domains, hosting, VPS, email and support administration under a single supplier.

The corporate website is mainly in Romanian, matching EFECT's strong local and regional focus. The customer portal provides considerably broader localization, including English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Portuguese, Russian, Ukrainian, Chinese and numerous additional interface languages. Products can be displayed and ordered in EUR or RON.
