📄 Editorial Review

DNSimple is a specialized domain-management and managed DNS company founded in 2010 and headquartered in Melbourne, Florida. Anthony Eden is the founder and CEO, while Darrin Eden is also associated with the company as a co-founder. The business remains privately held and has developed from a relatively simple domain and DNS management service into a considerably broader infrastructure and automation platform.

An important point in its early development came on September 19, 2012, when DNSimple acquired RoboDomain Inc. RoboDomain co-founder Simone Carletti subsequently joined DNSimple, bringing additional domain-management and WHOIS expertise into the company.

DNSimple is quite different from a traditional web hosting provider. It does not offer shared hosting, VPS, dedicated servers, colocation, hosted mailboxes, or conventional website hosting packages. Its core business covers Domain Registration, Managed DNS, Secondary DNS, SSL Certificates, Email Forwarding, URL Redirects, DNSSEC, API automation, Webhooks, Integrated DNS Providers, and the Domain Control Plane. DNSimple is also an ICANN-accredited registrar, allowing it to manage domain registrations directly.

Domain Registration covers hundreds of domain extensions and includes registration, transfers, renewals, automatic renewal, transfer locking, DNSSEC, and WHOIS privacy where the registry allows it. Customers can keep domains registered elsewhere and use only DNSimple's DNS infrastructure, or register domains with DNSimple while hosting websites and other services with different providers. This separation is useful for businesses that prefer to keep registrar, DNS, web hosting, and email services independent.

The Managed DNS platform is one of the strongest parts of the service. It uses a global Anycast infrastructure and supports standard DNS records as well as ALIAS records for root domains, CAA records, DNSSEC, URL redirects, and DDoS protection. Higher service levels add capabilities such as Regional Records, POOL records, reverse DNS, HTTPS redirects, domain-level access controls, and vanity name servers.

Regional Records allow DNS answers to differ according to the geographic region receiving the query. This can be useful for directing visitors toward regional applications, infrastructure, or services without requiring a separate traffic-management platform.

Secondary DNS provides another layer of redundancy. DNSimple can receive zone information from an external primary DNS provider through AXFR zone transfers and serve the replicated zone from its own authoritative network. This gives companies the option to operate a multi-provider authoritative DNS configuration instead of depending entirely on one DNS network.

The Domain Control Plane is particularly useful for companies managing DNS across different platforms. DNSimple can centrally control zones hosted through Amazon Web Services Route 53, Microsoft Azure DNS, and CoreDNS installations in addition to DNSimple-hosted zones. Administrators can import zones, synchronize records, and perform DNS-management operations from one environment rather than maintaining a completely separate workflow for each provider.

Automation is one of DNSimple's strongest characteristics. Its REST API supports domain registration, transfer and renewal, delegation changes, DNS record management, certificate operations, contacts, and other account functions. Official client libraries are available for several programming languages, including Ruby, Go, Elixir, Node.js, .NET, Java, PHP, Python, and Rust.

DNSimple also added a cross-platform CLI in 2026. It provides terminal access to domains, DNS records, certificates, contacts, services, webhooks, and other account features on Windows, macOS, and Linux. Browser-based OAuth authentication makes it practical both for direct administrative work and automated infrastructure workflows.

SSL Certificates are available through automated Let's Encrypt issuance as well as commercial Sectigo certificates. Single-host Let's Encrypt certificates are available across the current service levels, while Teams includes support for multi-host and wildcard Let's Encrypt certificates. DNS validation can be automated when DNS is controlled through DNSimple, simplifying certificate renewal considerably. Commercial Sectigo single-name and wildcard certificates remain available for organizations that prefer or require commercial certificates.

Email Forwarding is intended for redirecting incoming mail rather than replacing a proper email platform. Addresses at a domain can forward messages to existing external mailboxes, and catch-all forwarding is available. DNSimple does not provide conventional IMAP or POP3 mailboxes, mailbox storage, or webmail. Complete business email therefore requires another provider, while MX, SPF, DKIM, DMARC, and related DNS records can still be managed through DNSimple.

The URL Redirector provides domain and subdomain forwarding and uses permanent HTTP 301 redirects. Standard HTTP forwarding is available at the basic level, while HTTPS redirects depend on the appropriate subscription and an SSL certificate for the originating hostname.

DNSimple also supports specialized .BANK and .INSURANCE environments. These services are intended for organizations operating under the additional technical and security requirements of those restricted domain extensions. The package combines DNSSEC, multi-factor authentication, TLS, DDoS mitigation, custom or vanity name servers, Secondary DNS, API automation, priority engineering support, and a 100% uptime SLA.

Enterprise customers and larger domain portfolios gain access to volume pricing, centralized account administration, SSO, priority support, customized billing, migration assistance, and stronger DNS management features. This makes DNSimple particularly suitable for developers, SaaS businesses, agencies, domain portfolio operators, and enterprises that need automation rather than traditional hosting account management.

The company operates in English and its public pricing is in USD. The service interface is modern and strongly oriented toward technical users, developers, infrastructure teams, and organizations that treat DNS and domains as independent infrastructure components rather than features bundled with a low-cost hosting account.
