CPI is a long-established Japanese business hosting provider operated by KDDI Web Communications Inc. The company was established in 1987, entered the hosting market in 1997, became a consolidated KDDI subsidiary in October 2007, and adopted its present corporate name in 2008. It has approximately 215 employees, including temporary staff, and has served more than 40,000 corporate customers during its operating history.

The company concentrates primarily on Japanese organizations rather than the international mass market. Its customer base includes private businesses, public institutions, universities, web-development agencies, and other organizations that require infrastructure in Japan, Japanese technical assistance, formal service guarantees, and centralized website and email administration.

CPI is also a registered telecommunications operator, a JPNIC member, and a JPRS-designated domain provider. This background gives the company a more substantial technical and corporate profile than a typical low-cost shared hosting brand.

The present product range is more concentrated than CPI’s historical catalog. New customers can mainly choose between Business Standard shared hosting and the standalone KWC Mail service. Domain registration, domain transfers, DNS hosting, SSL certificates, backups, CDN access, malware monitoring, email-security tools, and migration assistance complement these core services.

Applications for the older CHM-2Z managed dedicated server and CHP-S root-access dedicated server ended on February 5, 2025. CPI no longer provides a new VPS, cloud server, reseller hosting, colocation, or dedicated-server option through its regular ordering catalog. The company is therefore best suited to organizations that need managed shared hosting and business email rather than root access, custom operating systems, or flexible virtual infrastructure.

Business Standard combines website hosting, business email, DNS management, security tools, backups, and deployment features within a single business-oriented service. The primary website receives 300GB of SSD web storage and 200GB of email storage.

Customers can connect as many as ten additional domains. Each additional domain receives an independent environment with 100GB of web storage and 100GB of email capacity. A single contract can therefore accommodate the main website and ten separate additional websites.

This multi-domain structure is particularly useful for businesses operating several corporate sites, product brands, regional websites, or campaign domains. Web-development agencies can also manage multiple customer projects without placing every website inside the same shared directory structure.

CPI separates the web server, mail server, and control-panel infrastructure. This reduces the likelihood that heavy website traffic or a problem affecting one service will interfere with the others. It also creates a clearer division between website operation, email administration, and general account management.

The hosting environment includes RAID10 storage, HTTP/2, SFTP, encrypted FTP connections, IP-based FTP restrictions, SSH key authentication, Git, cron jobs, WAF protection, access logs, error logs, and AWStats traffic statistics. Free domain-validated SSL certificates are included for supported domains.

The development platform supports PHP, Python, Perl, Ruby, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and SQLite. WordPress and EC-CUBE installers make it easier to deploy common content-management and e-commerce applications, although customers remain responsible for maintaining their applications, plugins, themes, and custom code.

One of CPI’s most useful features is SmartRelease. It provides a staging environment that closely matches the production environment, allowing websites to be tested before changes are released publicly.

SmartRelease supports one-click deployment between the testing and production environments, automated backups, manual backup creation, and self-service restoration. This is considerably safer than modifying a live corporate website directly through FTP.

The standard SmartRelease backup covers up to 10GB of website and database content and retains as many as 30 backup generations. The system is practical for web agencies, internal development teams, and organizations that need a controlled website-release process.

Business Standard email accounts include virus filtering, spam detection, STARTTLS, SMTP authentication, encrypted POP, encrypted IMAP, encrypted SMTP, SPF, DKIM, DMARC, ARC, forwarding, autoresponders, mailing lists, and browser-based webmail.

Storage can be assigned separately to each mailbox in allocations of 1GB, 2GB, 5GB, 10GB, 20GB, 50GB, or 100GB. This allows administrators to give larger quotas to departments or employees that retain extensive email archives without allocating the same capacity to every user.

The primary domain includes 200GB of total email capacity. Additional storage can be purchased in 100GB increments, with a maximum expansion of another 800GB. A fully expanded Business Standard email environment can therefore reach 1TB.

KWC Mail was introduced in August 2025 as a standalone business email platform. It allows companies to use CPI’s mail infrastructure without moving their website hosting to CPI.

The service begins with 100GB of email storage and can be expanded to a total of 1TB. When each mailbox receives the minimum 1GB allocation, the standard capacity can support up to 100 email accounts.

KWC Mail uses the same geographically redundant KDDI email platform as Business Standard. It includes SPF, DKIM, DMARC, ARC, spam filtering, virus scanning, encrypted mail protocols, webmail, forwarding, autoresponders, and mailing lists.

This makes KWC Mail practical for organizations that host their websites elsewhere but prefer to keep corporate email on Japanese infrastructure. Customers must have access to editable DNS records, either through CPI’s DNS service or another DNS provider.

Some Business Standard options are not available with KWC Mail. These include Active! mail, Active! gate, and the paid 24-hour support package. KWC Mail also does not receive the same SLA coverage as the primary Business Standard web server.

CPI’s supporting services are extensive. Customers can register and transfer Japanese and international domain names, use managed DNS services, purchase commercial SSL certificates, add secondary backups, activate website-malware monitoring, use CDN delivery, expand email capacity, and request migration assistance.

Its DNS service supports website records, mail records, SPF, DKIM, DMARC, and connections to external email or productivity platforms. This is helpful for organizations using a combination of CPI hosting and third-party cloud applications.

Free CPI DV SSL is included with Business Standard. Commercial certificates are available when an organization requires extended validation, organizational validation, or another specific certificate type.

The optional external backup service provides another recovery layer beyond SmartRelease. It takes copies every three days and retains up to three generations. This can be useful for customers who need backups stored separately from the primary website environment.

The website-change and malware-monitoring option checks for unauthorized modifications and malicious content. This adds a useful layer of protection for WordPress sites, corporate websites, and older applications that may be exposed to plugin or software vulnerabilities.

CPI also provides a CDN option for organizations with heavier traffic or distributed audiences. The relatively high starting price makes this service more appropriate for established business websites than small personal projects.

A serious email-security incident was confirmed in July 2026. Unauthorized access affected CPI’s email service, and email-account information associated with Business Standard and KWC Mail was exposed.

Passwords for these two current services were stored as hashes, and CPI had not confirmed exposure of plain-text passwords. However, the incident still required a broad credential-reset process.

On July 21, 2026, affected accounts that had not changed their passwords between June 18 and July 20 were forcibly reset. Customers then had to replace the stored passwords in email applications, mobile devices, multifunction printers, scanners, monitoring platforms, and any other business systems using those credentials.

The forced password reset was an appropriate containment measure, but the incident remains an important consideration for companies evaluating CPI primarily for email hosting. Organizations should use unique passwords, tightly control administrative access, maintain an inventory of devices connected to each mailbox, and establish a documented credential-rotation procedure.

CPI’s product website, account systems, manuals, and support resources are primarily in Japanese. KDDI Web Communications maintains an English corporate profile, but CPI is not structured as a fully English-language hosting platform.

Prices are displayed in Japanese yen and include Japanese consumption tax. The website has a modern responsive design and works properly on desktop computers, tablets, and mobile devices.
