📄 Editorial Review
.com.ar is the principal commercial namespace within Argentina’s .ar country-code domain. It is administered by NIC Argentina, the National Directorate of Internet Domain Registration within the Legal and Technical Secretariat of the Presidency of Argentina. The .ar extension has operated since 1987, while the present national directorate was established in 2011.This is a domain registry service rather than a web hosting provider. A .com.ar registration does not include website storage, email accounts, SSL certificates, a website builder, managed DNS, VPS resources or website administration. These services must be purchased separately from a hosting or infrastructure provider.
The .com.ar zone is mainly suitable for companies, professionals, commercial projects and organizations targeting the Argentine market. Registration is generally open, although some reserved or restricted terms require additional approval.
Argentine residents manage their domains through the government-operated Trámites a Distancia, commonly known as TAD. Access normally requires a CUIT or CUIL number and a Level 2 fiscal password. Representatives managing domains for another person or organization may require a Level 3 credential and the appropriate authorization.
Foreign applicants can also register .com.ar domains. Nonresidents must complete an identity-validation procedure and may need to submit notarized, authenticated or apostilled documents. Documents issued in another language require an official Spanish translation. Once validation is completed, the applicant receives credentials for managing domain procedures with NIC Argentina.
Domains are registered for one-year periods. Holders can register, renew, transfer and delegate domains, modify administrative information and initiate disputes through the official system. A domain may be challenged when another party can demonstrate a stronger legal right or legitimate interest in the name.
NIC Argentina operates WHOIS and RDAP services for consulting registration information. Personal information within the registry database is handled under Argentina’s data-protection framework, while WHOIS access is intended for legitimate domain-registration and DNS-related purposes.
The registry operates at a substantial scale. In June 2026, Argentina had approximately 711,769 active .ar domains, including 589,188 .com.ar domains. This means .com.ar represents around 83% of the national namespace and remains by far the most widely used Argentine domain category. Approximately 81% of active .ar domains were delegated to authoritative DNS servers.
The NIC Argentina website works well on desktop and mobile devices. Spanish is the primary language, while an English section assists foreign applicants with the essential nonresident registration procedures. The broader help center, administrative instructions and legal documentation remain primarily available in Spanish.
