*📜 Plan description

The Professional plan protects as many as 12 websites and provides 50 GB of total cloud backup storage with unlimited databases. The lowest rate is USD 39 per month when billed annually, equal to USD 468 for each 12-month term. A month-to-month alternative is available at USD 49 per month. It is aimed at freelancers, single-person agencies, and internal website projects that need centralized protection for several sites. The plan combines daily differential backups, monitoring, automated malware handling, client access, reporting, white-label service capabilities, WordPress maintenance, and multiple recovery methods in one account.

All CodeGuard plans provide automated offsite website and database protection through a cloud dashboard. After a site is connected with FTP or SFTP credentials, the initial copy records the selected content and later backups are differential, transferring only files that were added or changed. Database connections can use direct MySQL access or an SSH tunnel, and the platform also supports Microsoft SQL Server. Daily backups are combined with site-change monitoring, and ChangeAlert email notifications identify added, modified, or deleted files. Backup history can be retained for 30 days, 60 days, 90 days, or indefinitely, subject to the account storage allowance. Recovery options include downloading a complete backup as a zip archive, restoring selected files or folders, and requesting an automatic full-site restore. MalwareGone scans for viruses, trojans, rootkits, spyware, and other malicious changes, then uses known-clean backup versions to support remediation. The service also includes vulnerability scanning, configurable notifications, initial and daily backup tracking, two-factor authentication, IP login logging, WordPress compatibility, automatic WordPress plugin updates, website migration tools, client access, reporting, and white-label capabilities. Backups and stored credentials are encrypted; backup data stored with Amazon Web Services uses server-side AES-256 encryption and redundant S3 infrastructure across multiple facilities and geographies. The service reports 99.9 percent operational reliability, while S3 object durability is stated as 99.999999999 percent. All direct plans start with a 14-day free trial and billing information is collected before activation, but charging begins after the trial. Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover are accepted. Direct customers can use the knowledge base, email or account-based support tickets, and telephone assistance through a toll-free number during published weekday support hours. The checkout carries a 100 percent satisfaction policy with cancellation at any time and a prorated refund rather than a fixed-day money-back period.

📄 Editorial Review

CodeGuard is a cloud-based website backup, monitoring and disaster-recovery service founded in 2010 in Atlanta. David Moeller was one of its co-founders and served as CEO while the business operated independently. Comodo CA acquired CodeGuard on August 16, 2018, and kept it as a distinct website-security service. Comodo CA later became Sectigo, placing CodeGuard within a wider portfolio of digital certificates, website security and business-protection products.

CodeGuard is not a conventional web hosting company. It does not provide shared hosting, reseller accounts, VPS plans, dedicated servers, domain registration, email hosting or a website builder. Its role is to protect websites hosted by other providers through independent off-site backups, file-change monitoring, malware remediation and recovery tools.

The service covers website-file backup, database backup, website monitoring, malware detection and remediation, WordPress maintenance, website restoration, migration assistance, agency management and hosting-provider integration. It works as a direct backup platform for individual website owners and as a white-label service sold by hosting companies, developers and managed service providers.

The initial backup creates a complete copy of the website. Subsequent jobs are incremental or differential, transferring only the content that has changed. This lowers storage consumption and reduces the processing and bandwidth load placed on the hosting server. Automatic backups can run daily, while on-demand backups and retention periods of 30, 60, 90 days or unlimited history depend on the selected plan.

Website files are normally accessed through FTP or SFTP. Database connections can use direct access or SSH, with support for MySQL and Microsoft SQL Server. CodeGuard is independent of the content-management system and can protect WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, Magento, Typo3, MODX and custom-built websites, provided that valid file and database credentials are available.

ChangeAlert compares each new backup with the previous version and records added, modified and deleted files. Administrators can inspect these changes from the dashboard and receive filtered email notifications. This makes it easier to detect unauthorized uploads, unexpected source-code changes, accidental file deletion or other suspicious activity before it causes prolonged damage.

Restoration is one of CodeGuard’s strongest capabilities. Customers can restore an entire website, recover selected files or directories, return to a specific historical version or download a full backup as a ZIP archive. These options are useful after unsuccessful updates, malware infections, administrator mistakes, application failures or hosting-server incidents.

MalwareGone combines malware detection with previously stored clean backup versions. It can identify and remove threats such as viruses, trojans, spyware and rootkits, then restore the affected website content. Vulnerability scanning and automatic remediation add another level of protection, although a clean and recent backup remains essential for reliable recovery.

WordPress management includes automatic updates for the core installation, themes and plugins. Failed changes can be rolled back, reducing the risk of an incompatible update leaving a website inaccessible. Website migration, test restores and staging-related functions are also available, with some advanced capabilities reserved for higher subscription levels.

Agencies and developers can manage multiple customers from one account. Available functions include client access, customer reports, employee roles, custom subdomains and white-label branding. Websites can be organized into groups, and routine WordPress maintenance can be performed across multiple installations without logging into each website separately.

Enterprise environments add multi-tenant administration for large website portfolios, including websites spread across different hosting companies and server locations. The API supports customer accounts, websites, databases, users, partner integrations and customized domains through OAuth-based authentication. This allows automated provisioning, single-sign-on workflows and integration with hosting-provider billing or customer-management systems.

The main service and direct checkout are in English, with prices displayed in US dollars. A Spanish checkout version and regional service environments for Germany, France and the United Kingdom are also available. The main website remains usable on desktop and mobile devices, although parts of the account, support and payment systems retain an older interface and occasionally use outdated subscription terminology.
