📄 Editorial Review

Clook is an independent UK web hosting company established in 2002 by Chris James, who remains Managing Director. The business operates as a trading style of Sub 6 Limited and has remained independent despite the extensive consolidation that has taken place across the hosting industry. More than two decades of continuous operation gives Clook a level of stability that is particularly relevant for businesses and agencies looking for a long-term hosting relationship. The company handles infrastructure supporting close to 100,000 websites.

Clook is based in Chorley, Lancashire, and its services are strongly focused on the United Kingdom. Hosting infrastructure, technical operations and customer support are all centered around the UK market. The website is modern, easy to navigate and available in English, while hosting prices are primarily quoted in GBP (£).

The core service is cPanel Web Hosting, which operates on cloud-based infrastructure rather than relying on a traditional single shared server. Accounts include cPanel, LiteSpeed, LSCache, JetBackup, WordPress Toolkit, Imunify360, SSH access and free auto-renewing Let's Encrypt SSL certificates. Daily off-server backups are included, while customers moving from another provider can use the managed migration service without an additional migration charge.

The entry-level hosting packages are particularly suitable for personal websites, small business pages and lower-resource WordPress projects. Larger accounts provide progressively more storage and resources while retaining the same familiar cPanel environment.

Reseller Hosting is designed for developers, freelancers and agencies managing hosting for multiple customers. WHM is included alongside cPanel, allowing separate customer accounts to be created and administered independently. White-label administration, LiteSpeed, security protection and backup tools are incorporated into the reseller environment, making the platform suitable for agencies that want to sell hosting under their own brand.

For websites requiring considerably more processing power, Platform Optimised Hosting provides a substantial upgrade from conventional shared hosting. These OptWeb packages use NVMe storage together with significantly higher CPU and memory allocations while continuing to use cPanel for administration.

The platform is optimized for applications including WordPress, WooCommerce, Magento, Joomla, Drupal, Laravel, XenForo, PrestaShop, OpenCart, MediaWiki and Shopware. Features include Memcached, LiteSpeed with LSCache, LiteMage for Magento, PHP performance monitoring, Git, SSH, Node.js, Ruby on Rails, Softaculous and WordPress Toolkit Deluxe. Backup intervals can be as frequent as every four hours, with backups retained for up to 30 days.

Managed Cloud Servers provide dedicated CPU, RAM and storage allocations while leaving operating system administration, monitoring, patching, security and backup management to Clook's technical team. cPanel-based configurations can include CloudLinux, KernelCare, LiteSpeed, Imunify360 and JetBackup.

Customers requiring redundancy and greater application scalability can move to Managed Cluster Servers. These environments can combine load balancers, multiple web servers, database servers and shared storage. They are suitable for busy ecommerce stores, SaaS applications and other projects where a single server would represent an unacceptable point of failure. Individual components can be duplicated and workloads distributed across multiple nodes.

Managed Dedicated Servers provide dedicated physical hardware and can be built around Intel processors, DDR4 memory and NVMe storage. cPanel/WHM and LiteSpeed can be incorporated where required. Server monitoring, operating system management, security maintenance and backup administration are handled as part of the managed environment. Bespoke dedicated configurations can require additional provisioning time because the hardware is assembled according to the customer's requirements.

Standalone Email Hosting is also available. These plans use cPanel for mailbox administration and support POP, IMAP, webmail, aliases, spam filtering, virus protection, SSL and migration of existing mailboxes. Normal web hosting already includes email functionality, so the standalone service is mainly useful for organizations that want email hosting without purchasing website hosting.

Clook also provides domain registration, free and commercial SSL certificates, PCI scanning and additional website and email security products. Domains, hosting and security services can therefore be administered through the same provider.

The overall service range is considerably broader than basic shared hosting. Customers can begin with an inexpensive cPanel account, expand into reseller or higher-performance application hosting and eventually move to managed cloud, dedicated or clustered infrastructure without changing hosting company.
