CJ2 Hosting B.V. is a Dutch hosting, cloud, networking and data-center infrastructure provider headquartered in Groningen. The company was founded in 2002 by Carlos de Boer and Jeroen Oldenhof, after the two decided during an Informatics project at Hanze University to start an Internet business. What began as a small hosting operation developed into a technically oriented infrastructure company with its own autonomous network, several Dutch data-center locations and a strong focus on keeping customer data within the Netherlands.

CJ2 expanded steadily from traditional hosting into professional infrastructure. Its first office followed in 2005, services from SIG Telehouse started in 2006, and a dedicated support department was established in 2009. Additional data-center capacity followed during the next several years, including another Groningen suite in 2013, Westpoort capacity in 2014 and the CJ2 Datatoren in Hoogersmilde in 2015. ISO 27001 certification followed in 2017 and NEN 7510 in 2020. CJ2 celebrated its twentieth anniversary in 2022 and continues to operate as a relatively compact, technically focused Dutch infrastructure provider.

An important expansion took place in 2017, when NL Hosting became part of CJ2. Conventional hosting packages, domain registration and email services are now more closely associated with NL Hosting, while CJ2 concentrates primarily on managed infrastructure, cloud platforms, networking, storage and data-center services. This gives CJ2 a substantially different profile from a conventional low-cost shared-hosting provider.

The portfolio includes Managed Linux VPS, Managed Windows VPS, Managed DirectAdmin VPS, Managed Plesk VPS, unmanaged VPS, Dedicated Servers, Virtual Datacenters, custom IaaS and Private Cloud. Managed VPS environments cover operating-system configuration, updates, monitoring and routine administration, while unmanaged systems remain available for customers requiring full administrative control. Infrastructure can be built using technologies such as Proxmox, Hyper-V, VMware, Docker, Ceph and GlusterFS, depending on the workload and architecture. Dedicated-server deployments primarily use HPE ProLiant hardware.

Storage and business-cloud services are equally extensive. Veeam Cloud Connect provides off-site backup and disaster-recovery capacity in the Groningen cloud, while S3 Bulk Storage delivers S3-compatible object storage on a Ceph platform. Nextcloud environments provide locally hosted file synchronization and collaboration, including office functionality through Collabora Online.

CJ2 has also expanded into identity and AI infrastructure. Centralized identity management can be implemented through Authentik, while Local First AI covers dedicated GPU servers, managed LLM environments and AI-as-a-Service configurations. These services are particularly relevant for organizations that want AI workloads, confidential information and business data to remain on Dutch infrastructure rather than depending entirely on hyperscale public-cloud platforms.

Colocation and connectivity form another substantial part of the business. Customers can use individual colocation space, fractional racks, complete racks, corridors, cages and larger private data-center areas. Connectivity options include IP Transit, business Internet and private interconnects using technologies such as VLAN, MPLS and WAVE. Security-related services include managed spam filtering, SSL certificates and FortiWeb Web Application Firewall protection, while domains can be managed together with DNS and DNSSEC.

The cloud platform is strongly oriented toward Dutch data residency, with infrastructure in Groningen and Drenthe and operations covered by ISO 27001 and NEN 7510. Managed infrastructure and network services are continuously monitored, while direct access to experienced technical personnel remains an important part of the service model.

Sustainability is also integrated into the infrastructure. Measures include cold-corridor containment, Free Air Cooling, certified sustainable electricity and reuse of waste heat through Groningen's Warmtestad heating network.
