📄 Editorial Review

Cheeky Monkey Hosting is a New Zealand web hosting and domain provider operating since 2006. The business is 100% New Zealand owned, with customer service based on Auckland's North Shore. Its portfolio is mainly designed for individuals, small businesses, web designers, agencies and organizations that prefer locally supported hosting rather than unmanaged server infrastructure.

The current service range covers Shared Web Hosting, Cloud Hosting, Managed WordPress Hosting, Email Hosting, Reseller Hosting, Domain Registration and SSL Certificates. Managed WordPress services are closely connected with WPhost (wphost.nz), giving customers access to a considerably more advanced WordPress platform than the traditional shared-hosting packages.

The standard Web Hosting range consists of e-Mini, Cheeky, Cheekier and Cheekiest. All plans include free SSL certificates, email accounts, daily website backups, subdomains, 24/7/365 infrastructure monitoring and cPanel. Installatron provides one-click installation for more than 140 web applications. Higher packages also provide additional MySQL database allowances and eligible domain-renewal benefits.

The entry-level hosting packages are particularly suitable for small websites. Storage starts at 100 MB with 1 GB of monthly traffic, while the largest Cheekiest plan includes 1 GB storage and 10 GB monthly traffic. These limits are modest compared with many high-capacity shared-hosting packages, so larger WordPress installations, media-heavy sites and rapidly expanding businesses will generally be better suited to the managed WordPress platform.

Cloud Hosting uses the same familiar package structure as the standard hosting range while running on a virtualized infrastructure. Virtual machines use VMware technology with auto-failover capabilities, enterprise storage and a separate redundant email environment. The service remains fully managed and is closer to cloud-backed shared hosting than to a configurable VPS or infrastructure-as-a-service platform.

Managed WordPress Hosting is the more advanced part of the portfolio. The platform uses containerized environments with dedicated resources for individual WordPress installations and infrastructure backed by Google Cloud. Features include automated WordPress maintenance, staging environments, free migrations, backups, SSL certificates and CDN acceleration. Global content delivery is handled through Fastly.

WordPress plans range from Bronze with 1.5 GB SSD storage and capacity for approximately 10,000 monthly visits through Platinum with 10 GB SSD storage and approximately 50,000 monthly visits. Higher packages include additional features such as multisite support, malware protection, managed plugin maintenance, SEOPress PRO and enhanced emergency support. Silver, Gold and Platinum can also include renewal of an eligible domain while the hosting subscription remains active.

Reseller Hosting is aimed primarily at web designers and agencies working with WordPress customers. The Agency Partner service allows businesses to maintain their own customer relationship while the underlying hosting platform, maintenance and infrastructure are managed for them. Individual client websites receive isolated WordPress environments, SFTP access and access to a white-label mail-management interface.

Email Hosting can be ordered separately from website hosting. The mail environment uses redundant and load-balanced infrastructure with POP3 and IMAP access, spam and virus filtering, aliases, forwarding, autoresponders and webmail. RoundCube and EnsigniaMail are available for browser-based email access.

Domain registration covers New Zealand extensions including .nz, .co.nz, .net.nz, .org.nz, .geek.nz, .ac.nz and .school.nz, together with international extensions such as .com, .net, .org, .biz, .info, .kiwi, .co, .mobi, .cc, .ws, .tv, .us, .au, .com.au, .net.au, .co.uk and .org.uk. Eligible annual hosting packages can include a domain registration or transfer, while transfers for New Zealand and Australian domains are available without an additional transfer fee.

SSL certificates are included with hosting services, reducing the need to purchase a separate basic certificate for a normal website. The company operates in English; no multi-language/localized version exist. Prices are primarily in New Zealand dollars (NZD), while the billing environment also supports Australian dollars for relevant customers.

The business also has a community-oriented side, including financial support for the New Zealand SPCA. Combined with its long presence in the local hosting market, this gives Cheeky Monkey Hosting a more distinctly New Zealand-focused identity than large international hosting brands.
