📄 Editorial Review
BMIT is one of Malta's longest-established data center, cloud, and managed IT infrastructure providers, with roots going back to approximately 2001. Over the years, the business developed from early online and connectivity-related services into a much broader infrastructure company covering data centers, cloud computing, dedicated infrastructure, cybersecurity, networking, Microsoft services, managed IT, backup, and disaster recovery. The operating company is BMIT Limited, registered in Malta under company number C 39594, and it forms part of BMIT Technologies plc. BMIT Technologies is listed on the Malta Stock Exchange under the ticker BMIT, with GO plc as its immediate parent company and Tunisie Telecom further up the ownership structure. Christian Sammut has led the BMIT business since 2011 and serves as Chief Executive Officer.
GO acquired a 60% interest in BMIT in 2009 and completed the acquisition of the remaining shares in 2011. Expansion continued with the acquisition of a 51% stake in Kinetix IT Solutions in 2016, followed by full ownership in 2018. This considerably expanded BMIT's capabilities beyond hosting and data center services into managed IT infrastructure and enterprise technology.
The group continued expanding into additional digital infrastructure areas. In 2023, BMIT acquired GO's passive mobile infrastructure in an investment of approximately €47 million, creating the TowerOps business with roughly 300 telecom sites. In May 2025, it completed the acquisition of a 51% stake in 56Bit Limited, strengthening its AWS, DevOps, cloud migration, optimization, and managed-services capabilities. A 49% stake in Malta Properties Company plc followed in October 2025, giving the group additional exposure to properties used for data centers, telecom exchanges, and other digital infrastructure.
BMIT generated record revenue of €36.5 million in 2025, with €32.3 million coming from data center and managed IT activities. In August 2026, BMIT also agreed to invest €6.9 million in long-term capacity rights on the Arsinoe submarine cable system linking Egypt, Cyprus, and France, further expanding its connectivity footprint outside Malta.
For hosting customers, BMIT is primarily an enterprise infrastructure provider rather than a conventional low-cost shared hosting company. Traditional web hosting remains part of its broader background, but the main focus today is on Personalised Hosting Solutions, dedicated servers, cloud infrastructure, managed hosting, private environments, disaster recovery, and high-availability systems.
Dedicated Servers provide exclusive hardware resources with flexible CPU, storage, and configuration options. They can be combined with system administration, monitoring, backup, DDoS protection, firewall management, load balancing, and other managed services. Most dedicated infrastructure is quotation-based, which makes the service more suitable for companies with specific technical requirements than for customers simply looking for a fixed low-cost server package.
BMIT Cloud is the company's own public cloud environment and is hosted entirely in Malta. Reserved Instances provide preconfigured Linux and Windows virtual machines for predictable workloads, while BMIT Cloud Flex allows customers to customize CPU, RAM, storage, and networking. This makes the platform especially suitable for businesses requiring Maltese data residency, local support, or stricter regulatory control.
The cloud portfolio also includes Microsoft Azure and Amazon AWS. MultiCloud Connect provides dedicated connectivity to Azure, AWS, Google Cloud, IBM Cloud, Oracle Cloud, Salesforce, and Alibaba Cloud, while AWS Direct Connect and Azure ExpressRoute support hybrid environments where private connectivity is preferable to standard Internet routing.
Private Cloud and Hybrid Cloud services allow infrastructure to be distributed across customer premises, BMIT data centers, and public cloud platforms. This approach is particularly relevant to financial, gaming, telecommunications, and other regulated businesses that need tighter infrastructure control.
The wider service portfolio includes Virtual Desktop, Azure Virtual Desktop, cloud storage, server storage, Microsoft 365, Microsoft 365 migration, Microsoft 365 backup, DNS services, domain registration, SSL certificates, backup, Disaster Recovery as a Service, and numerous managed infrastructure services.
Backup services use technologies including Veeam and can protect systems running inside BMIT Cloud, colocated infrastructure, or equipment remaining at customer premises. Disaster Recovery as a Service provides replicated infrastructure that can be activated if the primary environment becomes unavailable, while Managed Backup for Microsoft 365 protects Exchange, OneDrive, SharePoint, Teams, and related Microsoft 365 data.
Managed IT services cover system administration, operating system installation and hardening, patching, availability monitoring, capacity monitoring, backup configuration, DNS and DHCP administration, Microsoft and Linux server management, database management, firewall management, load balancer management, and technical advisory work.
Cybersecurity is another major part of BMIT's business. Services include Managed Detection and Response, virtual CISO services, vulnerability and threat management, endpoint and cloud workload protection, identity and access management, email and web security, unified threat management, data loss prevention, secure remote access, network protection, and security awareness services. BMIT also works with organizations that need to meet regulatory frameworks such as DORA.
The main corporate website is in English. The customer and ordering interface supports a much broader range of languages, including Arabic, Azerbaijani, Catalan, Chinese, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Estonian, Persian, French, German, Hebrew, Hungarian, Italian, Macedonian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish, and Ukrainian. Products are offered primarily in EUR, with USD also available in the storefront.
Overall, BMIT has developed well beyond the scope of a normal web host. Its strongest areas are cloud infrastructure, managed services, data center operations, security, networking, and enterprise-grade hosting environments.
