bHosted.nl is an independent Dutch hosting provider founded in 2003 by Marc van de Geijn. The business began as a small hosting operation after Van de Geijn built a website and configured his first server for a friend traveling around the world. Its launch also coincided with SIDN opening .nl domain registrations to private individuals in 2003, a period that helped accelerate demand for affordable Dutch domains and hosting. More than two decades later, bHosted has developed into an established provider serving individuals, developers, agencies and business customers primarily from the Netherlands.

The legal entity is bHosted B.V., headquartered in Roosendaal, Noord-Brabant. It remains a relatively compact organization, with a company size in the 2–10 employee range and more than 10,000 customers associated with its operations over the years. Its smaller organizational structure works well for customers who prefer direct access to technically knowledgeable support instead of dealing with several layers of a large hosting organization.

The standard Web Hosting packages use NVMe-based infrastructure in the Netherlands and cover a wide range of small and medium-sized websites. Storage starts at 1 GB and increases through several package levels to 50 GB. Although the storage allocations are relatively conservative, the accounts include a strong collection of features such as LiteSpeed, free SSL certificates, CDN functionality, databases, email, regular backups, web statistics, DNS management and application installation through Installatron.

Depending on the package, hosting accounts provide between 10 and 500 mailboxes, 5 to 500 databases and monthly transfer allowances ranging from approximately 20 GB to 640 GB. Multiple domains can be hosted with the appropriate plans, and customers can move between package levels when their resource requirements change.

Developer access is unusually complete for inexpensive shared hosting. The platform supports SSH, SFTP, FTP, cron jobs, Git and Composer. WordPress can be deployed automatically through Installatron, while LiteSpeed caching, Redis and CDN functionality help improve performance. Existing WordPress websites and associated email can also be migrated. WooCommerce is supported for online shops, making these packages suitable for smaller and medium-sized e-commerce projects without requiring a VPS.

The broader CMS Hosting environment is not restricted to WordPress. Joomla, Drupal and other popular applications can be installed as well, providing more flexibility for customers maintaining different web platforms under the same hosting provider.

Email is one of the stronger parts of the service. Standard accounts support POP3, IMAP and encrypted SMTP alongside SpamAssassin and ClamAV. Security and authentication technologies include SPF, DKIM, DMARC, DANE, TLSA and STARTTLS. Aliases, forwarding and mailing-list functionality are available where supported by the selected package.

Customers requiring more specialized email delivery can use additional SMTP services, including authenticated SMTP, Batch SMTP and backup mail functionality. These services are particularly useful when a website, application or external server needs reliable outgoing mail delivery independently of the normal shared-hosting mail environment.

Mail Only hosting provides a simpler alternative for customers who need professional email under their own domain without conventional website hosting. Domain management and DNS functionality can be combined with the mail service, while domain parking is available for domains that do not currently require a website.

For organizations using Microsoft's ecosystem, Microsoft 365 adds Exchange Online and Microsoft business applications. Exchange Online can be purchased as a mailbox service, while Business Basic adds Microsoft cloud applications and OneDrive. Business Standard additionally provides desktop Office applications. Microsoft 365 accounts can coexist with ordinary POP3/IMAP mailboxes on the same domain, which is useful for organizations where only selected employees require Microsoft licenses. Existing IMAP email can also be migrated to Microsoft 365.

Reseller Hosting is built around DirectAdmin and is intended for developers, web designers and agencies managing hosting for their own customers. Resellers can create separate customer accounts, configure their own packages and distribute resources according to their requirements. Anonymous server identification is available, making the service suitable for white-label hosting.

Dedicated IP options are also available for reseller environments, with RIPE registration under the reseller's name possible where applicable. Free SSL and Installatron are integrated, reducing the amount of third-party software that needs to be added separately.

Backup retention on reseller hosting is particularly useful, with restore points maintained at several intervals including hourly, daily, weekly and monthly cycles together with longer-term copies. Restoration can be performed directly from the hosting environment.

The VPS platform uses KVM virtualization, giving each virtual machine proper isolation and root-level operating-system control. These VPS packages are best suited to customers comfortable managing their own operating system, security updates and installed software. They provide considerably more control than shared hosting and can also be expanded when workloads require additional resources.

Dedicated Servers offer a more traditional physical-server environment for customers requiring hardware dedicated exclusively to their workloads. Managed configurations can include server maintenance, monitoring and assistance with deeper system administration. Dedicated hardware specifications can be adapted to individual requirements rather than forcing every customer into a fixed configuration.

Colocation provides rack space, network connectivity, IP addresses, power and remote reboot functionality in the Netherlands. Physical servers are connected to UPS-backed power infrastructure, while remotely controllable APC power equipment allows systems to be power-cycled when necessary. Customers can also obtain 24/7 physical access under the applicable colocation arrangement.

Domain services cover numerous Dutch and international extensions, including .nl, .be, .com, .eu and .org. Domain transfers are supported together with website and email migration, making it possible to consolidate an existing hosting setup with bHosted.

DNS management is more advanced than the basic editors supplied with many low-cost hosting accounts. Customers can configure A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, TXT, SRV, NAPTR, TLSA and CAA records and use DNSSEC and IPv6. Dynamic DNS is available, while an HTTP-based DNS API provides automation possibilities for customers managing larger numbers of DNS records.

Free Let's Encrypt SSL certificates cover normal hosting requirements, while commercial SSL products are available for customers requiring alternatives such as wildcard or higher-validation certificates.

The Site Builder provides responsive templates for regular websites and online shops. SSL is integrated, together with connections to commonly used external services such as PayPal, Google Analytics, YouTube and social platforms. More advanced plans provide additional pages and webshop functionality.

The main customer base is Dutch and services are priced in euros (EUR). The company supports Dutch and English (using bhosted.com domain name), while the Belgian operation also provides access for customers targeting the Flemish market.
