0101HOST was a Hong Kong web hosting provider founded in 2002 by Mr. Mak Cheuk-wah. The company became inactive around 2015, and 0101host.com now remains a dormant legacy domain with unreliable/non-working SSL access rather than an active hosting service.During its operational years, 0101HOST was one of the more visible names in Hong Kong’s hosting market. They offered shared hosting, domain registration, business email, MSSQL hosting, email filtering, e-commerce hosting, dedicated servers, web design, online advertising services, mobile email, SSL-related hosting plans, and website builder tools. The service was mainly oriented toward Hong Kong SMEs and local website owners, with Traditional Chinese and English content available.
One of the company’s most important milestones came in 2005, when 0101HOST became the first ICANN-accredited domain registrar in Hong Kong. This gave customers direct access to international domain registration services and placed the company ahead of many local competitors that still depended on reseller channels.
Their hosting plans were typical of the older Windows/Linux hosting era. Shared hosting supported Windows 2003 / 2008 and CentOS, with ASP, PHP, Access database support, MySQL on selected plans, POP3, Webmail, mobile mail, FTP access, traffic reports, anti-spam and antivirus filtering. Business packages added stronger mail protection, SendToBoss monitoring, IMAP/Push Mail style features, and larger storage/mailbox allocations.
0101HOST also had several proprietary services that made the company stand out at the time. SendToBoss helped business owners monitor company email traffic, while the "Easy to Talk" website builder made basic website creation easier for non-technical users. Their eSHOP product added online store functionality with product management, shopping-cart features, search optimization and PayPal integration.
Dedicated servers were another important part of the portfolio. They used Dell PowerEdge / Dell Xeon hardware with Windows Web Edition or CentOS options, giving business customers a more powerful alternative to shared hosting. At the time, this helped position 0101HOST as more than a basic local shared-hosting provider.
The company also earned strong local recognition. 0101HOST received the Hong Kong Top Brand Gold Award for four consecutive years from 2010 to 2013, and in 2013 it also received the Hong Kong Most Popular Brand title. For a hosting company, that level of public recognition was unusual and showed how established the brand had become in the local market.
