broadcom.com logo📅 - Symantec (symantec.com) and Sun Microsystems (sun.com) today released the iForce Intrusion Detection Appliance, a high-speed network intrusion detection system (IDS). According to the companies, the new IDS combines Symantec's ManHunt 3.0 intrusion protection technology with the Sun Fire V60x server running on a Solaris operating system, x86 platform edition.

The companies said the appliance is designed to provide enterprises with extended protection against both know and unknown attacks.
"The iForce IDS Appliance demonstrates our commitment to providing an uncompromising, high-speed IDS appliance that protects critical information infrastructures," said Sandeep Kumar, director of product management at Symantec. "Symantec ManHunt also integrates with other Symantec Intrusion Protection solutions, which includes Symantec Host IDS and Symantec Decoy Server, to secure each layer of the network infrastructure."
The system, the companies said, provides enterprise-class security, monitoring up to 2 gigabits per second on copper or fiber?based networks.
"The Sun Fire V60x system, running on the Solaris OS x86 Platform Edition, provides enterprise-class security and availability to the iForce IDS Appliance," said Manish Bhuptani, senior director of network services market development at Sun. "Working with Symantec, we can provide our joint customers with a pre-tested, configured appliance that helps them secure their network infrastructure at a low cost."
The iForce IDS Appliance comes in seven models with varying bandwidth protection (100Mbps, 200Mbps, 500Mbps, 1Gbps fiber, 2Gbps fiber, 1Gbps copper and 2Gbps copper) and starts at a suggested price of $12,500.
